It's important to recall that this is a young adults genre book, and in that context - it provides a complex and deeply thoughtful story. I suppose this ranking highest for me has something to do with having just finished re-reading it, but if I were to have children I would want them to wrestle with the kinds of thoughts I find this book provoking. Way up there with the Harry Potter series. Touching on trust, critical thinking, challenges to Hope, facing the consequences of our actions and owing up to them...
