I admit I read this book because when the movie came out I was reminded it was on my list. Wow, am I sorry I didn't read it years ago when it was published (2007)! What a well written book!
Jacob Jankowski is a 93-year-old (or 90-year-old) man in assisted living, remembering/dreaming of his 23-year-old self and his adventures with the Benzini Brothers circus while dealing with the indignities of old age. Young and old Jacob, the circus folks, animals, and Rosemary at the home are beautifully drawn, emotionally deep characters. Yes, even the animals. Loved the ending.
