The Magic Handbook by Peter Eldin
The Magic Handbook

tjmagic, January 2, 2007

To be perfectly honest, I do read a lot of magic books being a magician, and quite frankly, this is one of the best introductory magic books I've encountered. In fact, some of these secrets are used by professional magicians. Just recently I saw one the tricks presented in this book performed live on stage at the Magic Castle in Hollywood.

Mr. Eldin has written a remarkable overview for the aficionado or the neophyte ? heck it's even a great resource for those already skilled since it contains two card memory systems. The illustrations are wonderful and the explanations are easy-to-understand. The good news is that most of these tricks require minimal hours to become proficient enabling the learner to get about performing sooner than later. And that's where the real learning comes -- in the actual application ? performing in front of live people.

I particularity like that Eldin gives the reader a bit of magic history in addition to many classics tricks such as the Miser's Dream, Afghan Bands and the Cups and Balls. These magic effects are ones that many of us practicing professional magicians learned as children, so the legacy passes on with THE MAGIC HANDBOOK.

Also, the card tricks are excellent and the introductory sleight of hand with coins is great. I cannot more strongly recommend this book as one of the finest beginner books on the subject of magic that I own.

A TRULY remarkable book!
