The Ground Beneath Her Feet by Salman Rushdie
The Ground Beneath Her Feet

traylorburford, November 24, 2007

Rushdie's story is powerfully told. While it is hard at times for him to sustain the strength of his plot as this 500+ page novel unfolds, he more than makes up for it with powerful language that will pull you in and wrap itself around you like a lover. Or several lovers. His narrator Rai is easy to love and Rushdie captures his sad, hopeful and permanently unrequited love for Vina, the earth goddess mentioned in the title. There are startling bursts of poetic profundity that move in and out of the pages of this epic.
