Indeed a powerful account of what occured in the Americas from 1493 and on . Just as important is what occured in 1492 from the beginning of "the conquest" as writeen down by Friars Bartolome de Las Casas and Montesino . Let us also not forget that the Spaniards ambition of gold an spices was greatly sanctioned by the Catholic church in spite of the advocacy for the natives Dominican Friars knew there was an agreement between the Catholic church and The Spanish Catholic Sovereigns already in effect called: The Treaty of Tordecillas" where it was specified what discoveries of land would belong to Spain and what would belong to Portugal. In essence the Western Hemisphere to Spain and the eastern to Portugal. Hence , mistreatment of the Native Indians, their families and their lands was justified by the church and by the Catholic King Ferdinand and Queen Elizabeth of Spain. The historical accounts and details of this are horrifying to say the least.
