Men at War #05: The Saboteurs by W E B Griffin
Men at War #05: The Saboteurs

wjohnspurrell, July 27, 2006

Having read all of his other work, this one reeks. The history is terrible. Examples: the german saboteurs are wearing timex watches (first produced in the 50's); the President didn't tell Vice President Harry Truman about the Manhattan project in 1943, well Harry didn't become vice president until 1945; the taxi cab driver puts the cab in park, (automatic transmissions didn't arrive until post war, except for a few Oldsmobiles produced in 1940); the Boeing 75 "tail dragger" was used for transoceanic transport (quite a feat for the old biplane trainer); the German saboteurs are driving a 30 chevvy pickup with the ammeter reading 12-14 volts - not bad for a 6 volt system, and the oil pressure is 50 psi (never saw much above about 15 in the old chevvies I have driven); Cannidy meets with a Sicilian in NYC on March 7 an after flying by the most expeditious route, and being transported to Sicily by sub, meets the same man on the 17th in Sicily. Absolutely terrible research.

This book belongs in the category of books by Dale Brown, scienceless fiction.
