It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. This book was on my list of "Books Wanted" for many months. I finally read it and fell in love with it. What a great story and characters! Now it's being made into a film - I wonder who will play Richard Burton?

Peter Heller creates a world of the future that, although hopeless in many ways, speaks to the resilience of the human heart despite the losses that harden it.

Girl I Left Behind A Personal History of the 1960s
by

I've read a lot of excellent books on the 60's, and this one is a standout. Nies describes her feminist awakening in strong, honest language that will resonate with others who discovered themselves in that era. This is a gem of a book.

Zeitoun

This book gets my vote as Best of the Decade. Even though most reviews have given away the ending, the suspense is almost unbearable. As we row along the flooded streets of New Orleans with Zeitoun, we want to shout to him - "Be careful - there are monsters out there!" This is a hearbreaking work of staggering impact.

Liars Club A Memoir
by

This is a memoir that reads like a novel, captures us from the first page, makes us ache, laugh, cry. We come to know the "characters" like those in David Copperfield. I've recommended this book to all my friends. It's one of the few books I've re-read within a few years of first reading it, and was just as impressed the second time around.
