How to Be a Domestic Goddess Baking & the Art of Comfort Cooking
by
Nigella Lawson
margaret kearney
, November 17, 2008
Ms. Lawson wows us with recipes that are -- at once -- elegant and simple. Her ingredients & simple directions allow the inexperienced cook or chef(ask my boyfriend) to succeed deliciously. Rhubarb grunt (cobbler) is easy yet divine. Chocolate mousse cake melts in your mouth. No recipe in this book is daunthing, yet all have been wonderfully comforting.

by
Martha Hopkins

, October 17, 2008
I suppose you'd pick up this cookbook out of curiosity when you see its amazing cover & interior photography, but if you truly enjoy cooking you'll buy it for the beautifully simple yet elegant recipes. Fresh flower ravioli, grilled scallops with fresh basil & lavendar, strawberry pasta! I can't wait to share it with the man I love.

Growing Up with Divorce: Helping Your Child Avoid Immediate and Later Emotional Problems
by
Neil Kalter
margaret kearney
, June 11, 2008
I frequently recommend Kalter’s “Growing Up With Divorce” to divorcing parents in my child therapy practice. Kalter understands divorcing parents, and provides them with thorough – yet understandable – information on the effects separation and divorce on children, and strategies parents can employ to help their children through it all. Dividing the information into developmental stages of childhood, he paints a picture of the child’s emotional experience and thought processes regarding divorce. He then addresses each stage’s support and parenting strategies, with great examples. His understanding comes from working in a support center for divorcing families, and his compassion shines throughout – not just for the children, but for the divorcing parents as well.
