Wow. Thick and full of information, this is not for the weekend morel hunter. This is the most complete single reference for mushrooms in North America, and an essential resource for anyone serious about fungi.

Macrolichens Of The Pacific Northwest
by

Good beginner's book for learning macrolichens and the only one published with color photos for the northwest. Keys aren't great though and many species are excluded.

Plants of Southern Interior British Columbia & the Inland Northwest
by
Roberta Parish
Biscuitroot
, May 25, 2010
Highly recommended for anyone who is interested in learning native plants in the inland Pacific Northwest including Washington, Oregon and Idaho east of the Cascades. It is one of the better books for identifying common plants east of the Cascades including trees, grasses and wildflowers. Photos and plant descriptions are also extremely informative. This book and Sagebrush Country are the two best beginner books (i.e. no technical keys and have color photographs) for learning plants in the arid interior of the Pacific Northwest.

For the west side of the Cascades this is an excellent book for learning native plants. Good photos, descriptions, and native uses. Other books by Pojar are also good.

Flora of the Pacific Northwest An Illustrated Manual
by
C Leo Hitchcock
Biscuitroot
, May 25, 2010
Until a new flora for Idaho, Washington and Oregon comes out- which should be sooner than later for Oregon- this is the standard reference for plant identification in the Pacific Northwest. It is the botanists bible, and I have worn out one copy and am currently on my second. The downside of this book is that it has not been updated since 1973- and approximately 50% of the accepted scientific names have changed or plants have been reclassified. The USDA Plants Database should be used to check any name when using this flora. This book is extremely technical and includes only black and white line drawings- not a book for the botanically faint of heart or the mildly interested, but essential for accurate plant identification in the Pacific Northwest.

Wildflowers of the Columbia Gorge A Comprehensive Field Guide
by
Russ Jolley
Biscuitroot
, May 25, 2010
Plants are grouped by family and specific location information for the Columbia Gorge is given. Also useful for areas near the Columbia River Gorge like the Columbia Plateau. Photos are a bit small sometimes to make out the detail of the plant though.
