Stroke Of Midnight Meredith Gentry 04
by
Laurell K Hamilton

This book follows on immediately from where the previous one Seduced by Moonlight ended, making reading them in order an important element. This entire book takes place over a day, dealing with the acquisition of power, the consolidation of alliances and Meredith's preparation for two crucial meetings, one with Krug King of the Goblin Court, the other with Taranis, King of Light and Illusion, and his Seelie nobility. Merry is exhibiting new powers In this book we learn considerably more about the court politics and the history of the fey, which fascinated me, but unfortunately we don't go to the Seelie court or the Goblin court. We see a lot more of Queen Andais, showing another side of her, although she is sadistic and mad she cares what happens to her court. The twists and turns in the book are attention grabbing and make you want to progress further to see what occurs next. The point I like most is that there is no true black and white, and light and darkness are not equal to good and bad and evil and good are not always what they seem to be. Ms. Hamilton leaves you on a cliffhanger precariously waiting for the next instalment to appear!

Seduced By Moonlight is the third novel in Laurell K.Hamilton's Princess Meredith series. This novel occurs over the span of two days and in this short period of time Merry has to cement her deal for alliance with the Goblins and when ordered to by the Queen return to court with her entourage. Upon arriving they find that something is drastically wrong. Not only is there an assassination attempt on Merry?s life, but also the Queen is out of control, someone has bespelled her and she is jeopardy of destroying her entire court, Merry is able to prevent the coup attempt whilst determining who is behind it. Meantime something is happening when Merry mates with her guards, they are coming back into their long lost powers and returning to the gods that they once were. Danu, the Goddess appears to Merry in a dream, and she is given a sacred chalice, other ancient and powerful Unseelie relics are also acquired, including a heavy ring given to her by Queen Andais. These sacred objects have their magic restored, as of old, through Merry and no one is sure how far her powers will take her. The ending was a true page-turner; I couldn't put it down I thoroughly recommend these books.

Caress Of Twilight Meredith Gentry 02
by
Laurell K Hamilton
karenboath
, November 12, 2006
In her previous book, faerie princess Merry Gentry was given a challenge by her aunt, the Queen: If she doesn't produce a child before wicked cousin Cel does, then Cel gets the throne, however, things are getting messy as a mysterious force has left hundreds in California dead, and Merry has to find out why and who. Merry learns that a bizarre, primordial power has been unleashed to murder and what's more, Merry's very presence is beginning to awaken the godlike powers that the Sidhe thought they had lost. As always, Laurell K. Hamilton writes dark fantasy like no other, her descriptions and narratives really bring one's imagination to life. The best part about this book and this series thus far has to be the portrayal of the two courts of the Sidhe; I have never come across such a fascinating and distinctive interpretation of the two courts as in this series. Unseelie Sidhe as the superior court accommodating all children, no matter their parentage and the contrast between the artifice of the Seelie court with their brutality and torture. I'm hooked and looking forward to reading the next novel in the series, one of the best pieces of fiction on fairies I've ever read.

Kiss of Shadows
by
Laurell K. Hamilton

, November 12, 2006
Laurell K. Hamilton has created a new series about the Sidhe/ Fey (otherwise known as Fairies) turning the idea of harmless little pixies into sensual and breathtaking characters that bound of the page. Princess Meredith NicEssus Gentry a fey princess of mixed mortal blood, has been hiding in Los Angeles for three years, from her wicked Aunt Andais, the Queen of Air and Darkness. Knowing that because of her mortality she could not survive another duel as she was unwillingly drawn into a power struggle over the question of succession. After mishandling a case at the Detective Agency where she works, Merry is exposed and forced to return to the Unseelie court, accompanied by Andais's personal Darkness, Doyle. Upon arriving Merry discovers that times have changed at the court and the fey are growing weak, the Queen wants Merry to bed some of the most gorgeous Sidhe men in the world and Merry has to produce a child within three years in a race for the throne against her sadistic cousin, Cel. The loser will die... This is a must read and I urge everyone to give it a go!!!! I can't wait for the next books in this series.

Incubus Dreams Anita Blake 12
by
Laurell K Hamilton
karenboath
, November 12, 2006
Anita Blake just may be America's most powerful vampire hunter and necromancer, so when a St. Louis stripper is murdered and the evidence points to a group of seven vampires the St. Louis police once again call for her assistance. It seems a master vampire has gone rogue and may prove too powerful for Anita Blake, even if she can gain help from the Master of the City Jean-Claude, the were leopard king Micah her other lover, and the alpha werewolf Richard her bitter ex-lover. Much of the novel focuses on her responsibilities as a leader in St. Louis's vampiric-lycanthropic community. It's not all about the previous characters though; there are lots of interesting new vamps and were?s that you're going to love to love and love to hate. The plot revolves strongly around Anita's blending of her executioner role, her vampire authority and abilities, and her relationships with the local police. This book is a continued evolution of a series and being that it is one in a long series, not all of the answers are going to be revealed if the series is to continue, so you are left with a lot of questions at the end of this novel!

Cerulean Sins Anita Blake 11
by
Laurell K Hamilton
karenboath
, November 12, 2006
This series only gets better because you have an ongoing, chronological saga with sizzle and all the complexities that visit each of us in relationships, plus the completely over the top world of necromancy, werewolves, werecats, vampires, witches, magic and ongoing life and death struggles. This time around, Anita is asked to reanimate a corpse that holds the key to a long-ago crime, but there are several beings that don't want the past dug up again. I loved this book it concentrated more on the vampire politics and we were allowed to delve more into the council and its strange brand of politics. Also the introduction of a new character Belle Morte and her brand of malevolence into the series should make the next book even more interesting. Uniquely we get to see a little more of Jean-Claude and for the first time Ms. Hamilton allows her readers to feel sympathy for him, some of his past experiences he had at 'court' are revealed, as well as how he was made and how he became the powerful and sexy Jean-Claude that we now know and love. There is major vampire suffering in this book, with the build up we have all enjoyed reading in previous books of this series of the love-hate relationship between Jean-Claude and Asher finally reaching pinnacle in spectacular Hamilton fashion. Cerulean Sins ultimately gets us past the "Anita and Richard" part of the plot as Richard features very little in this book, however who knows for the future, as the door has certainly been left open for Richard.

Narcissus in Chains Anita Blake 10
by
Laurell K Hamilton
karenboath
, November 12, 2006
Anita is still her difficult self, which makes her a great character to follow. The characters are real and alive, the writing is strong and vivid with believable dialog and the situations are exhilarating. Anita shows her real human side when she has trouble handling her pard and members of the lukoi, she finds herself caught between the monsters and humans once again, only now she is clearly on the side of the monsters and one thing is for sure, Anita will do just about anything to help her friends and she has quite a list of followers who will protect her with their lives too. Anita achieves the level of Master Necromancer, enhances her status as human servant to Jean-Claude and acquires a vampire servant of her very own. She also becomes Bolverk of the Thronnos Rokke Clan, Nimir-Ra, (with her own Nimira-Raj), of the Blooddrinkers Pard, and a lycanthrope politician, of sorts. To me, this feels like a transitional book and if this is anything to go by the best is going to get even better!

Obsidian Butterfly Anita Blake 09
by
Laurell K Hamilton
karenboath
, November 12, 2006
Anita loves both a werewolf and a vampire; however, she has stubbornly refused to see either one of them for over the past year because she is frightened of giving herself to either of them due to their species. Edward (Death) calls in his favour, asking for her help with a preternatural creature like none he has ever encountered before, people have been found slaughtered and no one is sure who or what is behind all of the carnage. Obsidian Butterfly is the Master of his City, and could be a potential suspect, or at least have information regarding the perpetrator of the crime and they need Anita's preternatural expertise to deal with her. Anita needs no persuasion to run to Santa Fe to escape her problems and help out. Edward also has a bombshell to drop Anita's way; you won't believe it till you see it! It was such a pleasant change to read a book that was all about the furtive Edward, getting a glimpse into what really makes him tick, though at the same time he remains the shadowy, sinister character he has always been, whilst he appears to have a secret human side after all, I look forward to seeing more of Edward in the future. This is one of the best series I've ever read and recommend it to anyone. I do suggest that the previous books should be read in order to provide a better understanding of the series.

Blue Moon Anita Blake 08
by
Laurell K Hamilton
karenboath
, November 12, 2006
really enjoyed reading this book and it is my favourite to date, Anita, Richard Alpha Werewolf and ex lover and Jean-Claude Master Vampire her present lover, have formed a Triumvirate of power - Master Vampire, Ulfric and Necromancer. In other words, when the three connect, they emanate incredible power and are able to do much more magic than any one or two can do alone. The three are still bound to each other, even though Richard is infuriated with Anita for breaking up with him, he may be devastated and petulant but, the three of them are tied together whether they wish it or not. Now Richard is in trouble for rape. He says he's innocent, and Anita leaves Jean Claude in St. Louis and goes to help a man who feels he doesn?t need her assistance. Blue Moon gives you further insight into the were?s way of life, continuing on from what we discovered in Laurell K. Hamilton?s fourth offering Lunatic Cafe. This book expands more on the whole were culture and its implications, with Anita further exploring her powers within the local pack and her pard. Ms. Hamilton has tremendous writing abilities and her heroine Anita Blake, is an outstanding job of characterization with sharp narrative and dialog.

Burnt Offerings Anita Blake 07
by
Laurell K Hamilton
karenboath
, November 12, 2006
Burnt Offerings is as exciting and satisfying as all the 6 others that come before it. Laurell K. Hamilton is such a talented writer that she pulls you into her world and before you know it, several hours have passed, you?re finished reading the book, and hoping the next one will be out REAL soon. Burnt Offerings has Anita helping the police with an outbreak of serious fires throughout St. Louis. Anita believes the culprit may be a "firebug," a being who uses supernatural power to cause conflagrations. To top it all off the vampire council has arrived in St Louis, taking over The Circus of the Damned to investigate Jean-Claude, Richard and Anita, whom they view as a menace to their power. Some of these ancient beings have secret agendas, which make it almost unfeasible for our group of three to endure the trials and tribulations the council demands of them. Anita is put in a position where she is forced to rescue not only friends, but enemies as well. The humour, dark as always, adds much to the story and there are plenty of laughs to offset the violence. On the whole, I cannot recommend this series enough. "Burnt Offerings" is Ms. Hamilton?s most complex novel thus far.

Killing Dance Anita Blake 06
by
Laurell K Hamilton

When you start reading the Anita Blake series, your days will be lost, you will find yourself staying up until ridiculous hours in the morning to finish it and then before you know it running down to the bookstore to get the next one immediately ? as these books are seriously addictive!! Anita's powers are increasing and in The Killing Dance the lines between her humanity and the supernatural began to blur. Always an uncompromising and hard-hitting lady, she's beginning to develop a detachment, a hardness that?s making her fearful. An assassin has been hired to murder Anita. There's a $500,000 price on her head...and she's only a human. This leads to her ?friend? bounty hunter extraordinaire Edward her knight in soiled armour, or as the vamps and were?s like to declare Death, volunteering his services as detective and bodyguard. Her two love interests, Alpha werewolf Richard Zeeman, and master vampire Jean Claude, are the ones most capable of protecting her but can they put their rivalry and jealousy on hold until the emergency is over and the hitman is found? Highly recommended I can?t wait to read Hamilton?s next book Burnt Offerings

Bloody Bones Anita Blake 05
by
Laurell K Hamilton
karenboath
, November 12, 2006
Laurell K. Hamilton?s books just keep getting more enthralling with each instalment. I literally could not put this book down. Anita?s new client needs her to raise an entire graveyard of bones, many of which are over 300 years old and Bert Anita Blake's boss is much too greedy to listen to her refusal and say no to the client. Upon arriving in Branson Anita is called in to help investigate some gruesome vampire killings, which appear to have been done by the first vampire serial killer on record, one who specializes in the young. Anita decides it is time to turn to her master vampire Jean- Claude for help; as soon as he arrives they face all out war with Branson?s own master vampire, Seraphina and her powerful assembly of followers. Jean Claude, Anita, Larry her apprentice and Jason the werewolf are seriously mismatched in a struggle where no one can be trusted and nothing is what it seems to be. Bloody Bones is a fast paced user-friendly walk through another world. Ms. Hamilton once again manages to produce another highly entertaining and enjoyable book with its mystery, detective, and supernatural fantasy themes carrying the reader along from its first page to its last and never once losing its momentum.

Lunatic Cafe Anita Blake 04
by
Laurell K Hamilton

, November 12, 2006
If you like horror with a dash of black humour and can cope with alternate reality tales then you'll love this series. Both good guys and bad are incredible but always plausible. Anita is in love with Richard Zeeman, a kind and handsome science teacher who just happens to be a werewolf - an Alpha Male. Anita thinks she can deal with his "condition" enough to consider marriage. Then she starts to see another side of Richard - one he has tried to keep dormant. The alluring Jean-Claude, vampire extraordinaire, and Master of the City of St. Louis, finds it entertaining that Anita doesn't think Richard is "human enough" for her! Lycanthropy just happens to be the foremost theme of this novel, so the couple's problem is significant. In addition we get more of an introduction to the lycanthropes (weres) of the city, their communal formation, and the whole host of problems that go with that. I highly recommend this series, but I believe that to really enjoy these novels, and the characters' development, these books should be read in order (At least the 1st four).

Circus Of The Damned Anita Blake 03
by
Laurell K Hamilton
karenboath
, November 12, 2006
In "Circus of the Damned" Laurell K. Hamilton builds on her previous novels to give a fuller and more frightening picture of an alternate earth where vampires, werewolves and other monsters are commonplace members of modern society. Whilst helping the St. Louis Police investigate a pair of human murders carried out by an unknown vampire pack, Anita Blake realizes that there is a new master vampire in the city, one that is intent on terrorizing the masses and challenging Jean-Claude as Master of the City. Anita, the animator / vampire slayer / necromancer, returns in a fast-paced, riveting thriller that does not let the reader go, not even for a second. The earlier books of the Anita Blake series are fun, somewhat your distinctive detective stories with a bloodsucking twist. They also have the advantage of a strong female lead, some bizarre sidekicks and a mild freshening up of your average dark fantasy/horror staples like vampires and weres. Compared to her previous books, I found that this one has many more humorous moments with Anita having many of the best one-liners in the book, the level of action and gore is maintained throughout whilst the sexual tension between Anita and her two men increases. This book contains many new plotlines and characters which will be continued throughout other books, so it's fairly important to read this book if you're going to appreciate the other books of the series.

Laughing Corpse Anita Blake 02
by
Laurell K Hamilton
karenboath
, November 12, 2006
This second book with it?s non-stop action is a complete page-turner that kept me gripped until the end, with multiple plots weaving together to lead up to a shocking climax. This time around Anita is in way over her head with a whole cluster of serious problems. A wealthy industrialist wants to pay her one million dollars to raise someone who has been dead for a couple of hundred years and is unwilling to accept that Anita has refused, because the only way to do so requires a human sacrifice. We see more into Anita's past and meet her mentor, which is an incredibly refreshing experience, whilst taking a trip into St. Louis's darker side. There is new interaction between Anita Blake and Jean-Claude the master Vampire of St Louis, although the focus is to a large extent more on her job as an Animator than as the person the vampires call The Executioner. The Laughing Corpse is 95% about zombies and voodoo whereas the first Anita Blake novel was primarily about vampirism, this book focuses on Anita's day-job raising the dead and with the details provided, the idea of zombie-raising sinks in and makes the series even more enjoyable. I for one can?t wait to read the third instalment of the series!

Guilty Pleasures Anita Blake 01
by
Laurell K Hamilton
karenboath
, November 12, 2006
The first Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter novel is a wonderful introduction to the Anita Blake universe. The premise of this novel is certainly interesting, a world where the Supreme Court has ruled that Vampires are deserving of civil rights and lycanthropes are a minority, which are frequently discriminated against. Guilty Pleasures involves the aforementioned Anita Blake, a formidable vampire hunter, who now focuses on being an animator who raises the dead, whilst assisting the Police in supernatural cases following the legal declaration of rights for the undead. To Anita Vampires are monsters, which when they get out of control, must be killed, but U.S. law protects the vampires that behave themselves. When someone starts killing the vampires of St. Louis, the police make little progress, exasperated by this two of the strongest vampires in the city, Jean-Claude and Nikolaos, ?convince? Anita she needs to hunt down the killer! I was hooked once I began turning the pages of this book with its diminutive go-getting heroine; Guilty Pleasures is an entertaining book to read. Pick up this first book of Laurell K. Hamilton?s Anita Blake series and get ready for the carnival ride of your life, as it's impossible not to be totally captivated by its non-stop thrills and chills, wry humour, and very personal style.
