Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Master Of All Desires

This is my favorite Judith Merkle Riley book. It covers all kinds of ground, from the Italian Court, to Nostradamus, to Christianity, to Black Magic. She takes a fictional character and places them in a Historical place and time. If you like Phillippa Gregory, try Merkle Riley, I think you'll like her.

Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay

This book was great... then I got to the last section (the last 1/3), and it was a huge struggle to force myself to keep reading. It felt like the author felt like he had so many loose ends to tie up, there was little further character development. And that's what made the first 2/3's of the book so page-turning. So, its worth the read, just beware your "pages-per-hour" might diminish greatly toward the end. I just started skipping paragraphs.

Scrum Bums Get Fuzzy

For anyone who loves Get Fuzzy, or those of you that may be unfamiliar with Rob, Satchel and Bucky, this is a great book. Parts of it will have you rolling on the floor, others will have you chuckling and smiling to yourself. I am a huge Get Fuzzy fan, and this is the first book that I got (along with the comic-a-day calendar). I am planning to work now to complete my collection. For those of you with a cat(s) and/or dog(s), you will sit there thinking, "hey, my pet does that too!!!" (or if they could you knew they would).
