Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. My Usual Game: Adventures in Golf
by
Owen, David

, June 08, 2011
David Owen has given us a literate, droll, sometimes laugh-out-loud funny look at the game of golf as we "hackers" play it. The title comes from an old saying (Scottish, I believe) that says "I wish that just once I would play my usual game". That kind of sums up golf for me. I look forward to reading it again soon.

Leonard Maltins 151 Best Movies Youve Never Seen
by
Leonard Maltin

, May 05, 2010
I was amazed to find that I had only heard of a dozen or so of these movies - same with my moviegroup friends at work. The reviews cover mostly the past 25 or so years and are long enough to get some depth but short enough to zip through - nicely written. Over the last several months, I have seen four or five of the "151" on Maltin's recommendation and have not been disappointed yet. Excellent book for movie lovers!
