Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)

I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Waltzing The Cat
by
Pam Houston

I'm going to spend the rest of my life looking for a house with hardwood floors. This is one of the top books I've ever read, and I want to invite Lucy to be a part of my life forever. Pam Houston is a master of writing stories that capture true emotion, humorous situations, and human weakness.

Bone One Volume Edition
by
Smith, Jeff
Michelle
, January 05, 2007
I waited almost 10 years to finish Jeff Smith's story of the Bone cousins, and once I did, I regretted being done because I wanted to know more. Written with humor, sadness, and lessons in compassion, family bonds, and humility, this tale is great for all ages and a rare gem.

Dinner At The Homesick Restaurant
by
Anne Tyler
Michelle
, January 05, 2007
As usual, Anne Tyler delivers characters who live and breathe long after you put the book down. The description of a dysfunctional family that still manages to hold on to one another is moving, funny, and consuming.

Haunting Of Hill House
by
Shirley Jackson
Michelle
, January 05, 2007
Shirley Jackson finds a way to make this book incredibly creepy in a sneaky way. I tried my best not to read it in the dark, but I had bad dreams anyway. Her use of imagery and language create a thrilling, bone-chilling book.

I couldn't put it down. Even though I wanted to smack Charlotte sometimes, this is definitely a book to read!

Eye-opening. This book educated me and gave a personal voice to suffering and optimism in the face of adversity.
