Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. This is an amazing story, not just for children, but for anyone who loves books and a story that you don't want to end. I am ordering another copy for my elementary school library. My students keep hearing how much I love this book! Highly recommended!

Lemoncello 01 Escape from Mr Lemoncellos Library

What an absolutely delightful adventure that involves a library! The reader has the opportunity to try to solve the puzzle along with the children in the story. It is a plot that adults as well as middle grade students will find captivating. This tale has a slight hint of Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" in it. I definitely want to read more by the author of this New York Times book. It is certainly a delicious read!

The Day the Crayons Quit

This is an amazing book! It makes a wonderful read-aloud book for elementary children. I shared this with classes in my elementary school library. We couldn't wait to turn the pages! I loved the descriptive words the author uses to convey the crayons' feelings. The format makes this even more interesting, as each crayon writes a letter to the owner, complaining about how is has been either overworked, or neglected. This book would be a timeless gift for all ages.

Charley Harper's illustrations are wonderful! My family has thoroughly enjoyed the matching game that I purchased from Powells in which the tiles are Charley's animals. I am looking forward to using this book in my elementary school library with classes that are studying the rain forest. What a great combination of resources -- superb illustrations and engaging writing - to excite and educate!

This sounds like a real charmer!! I'm ordering it so that I can share it with the students in my elementary library. I'm sure we'll enjoy it together. Starred reviews are always a good sign for me. I also love to show signed copies to my young readers.

There hasn't been a book written that doesn't have its detractors. However, it doesn't matter to me nearly as much what inspired the author to write the book as much as how the book affects me. I don't know when I've been so affected by a book. Reading it gave me such a yearning for the spiritual experience described in the story. This is an account that inspires one to continue to search and grow into a deeper personal relationship with one's Creator. It is a keeper!
