Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Catching Fire: Hunger Games #2

Amazing book! Used Hunger Games in newly created literature circles with my language arts classes and we all became instant fans of the series. This, the second in the trilogy, is as tantalizing and action-packed as the first. In the form of the best writers, Collins created interesting twists and surprise events to keep the reader on his/her toes and hanging on the edge of their seats. I would recommend this book to EVERYONE! It is one of the best books I have ever read, and it helped to awaken the reader in my most stubborn non-readers. I love it and can't wait for Mockingjay!

Boy At War

I am a middle school language arts teacher, and I was searching for a book to use to teach a Pearl Harbor unit. This book fits perfectly. The writing is clear and understandable. The characters are believable and you can feel the tension building when the boy's father appears missing and then is confirmed as MIA. The book also presents both sides of the issue for an opportunity to allow readers to glimpse different perspectives of one of America's most tragic events. I would recommend this book highly!
