I loved this book, and the first one in this soon-to-be trilogy, The Last Werewolf. Duncan's prose is brilliant and beautiful. I laughed out loud in places, cringed in others. There's sex and violence, to be expected with werewolves. That may be off-putting to some but you'll miss some amazing writing if you dismiss it out of hand based on that. I'm not normally a fan of gore, but Duncan can pull it off without reducing it to simple gross-out. The descriptions are almost clinical, not intended to sicken. In this world, vampires and werewolves are natural enemies, but become unwilling allies when each needs to save one of their own. There's an international conspiracy that draws them together. Relationships are complicated, unexpected. I'm trying really hard not to give anything away here, and I'm waiting impatiently for the third installment, due out this year.

I just got one of these for Christmas, and I am loving it. I think it's the handy size that makes me want to tote it around everywhere. I've been putting free books from Project Gutenberg on, just to try it out, and so far it's fantastic. There are a lot of functions, I love being able to change the font and size, I LOVE the dictionary feature, still learning the ins and outs of the annotate and highlight options, but it's already become a constant companion. I gave it 4 out of 5 in the rating because the only thing I regret about it is that it's not lighted like the Kobo Glo. There has to be a way to do it in the Mini, then it would be perfect. The e-ink is sharp and crisp, very like print on a page (better than many books, actually). Very fun new toy!

This was creepy and weird and Lovecraftian. You come to care about the characters deeply. The shifting around in time (flashbacks mixed in between the main narrative) was a little odd at first, but ultimately it worked better than simply telling the story in a linear fashion. Beautiful writing, really enjoyed this.

One of my favorite books ever. Duncan is a brilliant writer, giving us a weirdly believable werewolf in the person of Jake Marlowe. His wry observations on life, death, and surviving as a monster over the course of centuries made it un-put-down-able. I literally finished it while standing at the stove, cooking dinner. Halfway into the sequel, Talulla Rising, now and it's every bit as good.
