Painted Drum
by

A mother and daughter run an estate/antiques business that involves an estate with a drum. The daughter recognizes the drum's importance and keeps it. The story tells the history of this particular drum, developing interesting characters as the story evolves. There's a bit of believable magic that makes this a very good read. I enjoyed this book expecially for the information on Native American culture.

This is a wonderfully simple, easy to read story of a small town preacher's daughter life growing up without a mother and yearning to get away to the City. It has some surprising twists and a delicious cadence. I recommend it for light reading and entertainment.

This book is a spellbinder I could not put down. Osama bin Laden followers set off a bomb at a London soccer match killing a woman's husband and son. This book is her letter to Osama chronicling her life, especially her guilt for surviving and cheating on her husband. It's beautifully written, believable, amazing and highly recommended.

Rogue River Feud
by
Zane Grey
Southern Oregon Reader

This book is a terrific peek at what old Oregon must have been like when fish were plentiful on The Rogue River with salmon and steelhead from Grants Pass to Gold Beach. The canneries were busy and local Indians lived peacefully with the new immigrants. There was plenty of space and to eat for all. The book addresses the greed and illegal fishing practices that eventually fished out our waters but gives due justice to the beauty and majesty of the area. Zane Grey works his plot around a damaged returning soldier with a love of the River and sense of moral right. Naturally, there's a happy ending to make it an uplifting book. I highly recommend this book.
