From a Name to a Number A Holocaust Survivors Autobiography
by
Alter Wiener
JQ2011
, January 02, 2013
The sheer simplicity of the horror of the Nazi terror, brutality and unbridled torture of the Jewish people during WWII has been is well documented. One Polish Man's strength to not only survive years of torment under the Nazi regime makes what could be a horror too big to comprehend into a not only readable but informative telling of day to day struggle for mere survival as a Jew during concentration camps and work camps. Why read this book? Because we must never forget what has happened in the past, and make sure it never happens again. Why else read this book? To put our own lives and struggles into perspective. While the author is still alive Just Read It! and in Oregon do hear one of his lectures.

Buried in the Sky the Extraordinary Story of the Sherpa Climbers on K2s Deadliest Day
by
Peter Zuckerman, Amanda Padoan

Buried In The Sky is a page turner. I read this book day and night. An incredible amount of research went into the understanding of the cultures that climb, guide and care for westerners who go to great lengths to climb extreme mountain peaks. The rich cultures of the Himalayan people who live in the regions of Mt. Everest and K2 are not only fascinating but informative. There are so many intersecting pieces about the deadly K2 climb in August, 2008 that one needs to just sit down for one long read to put it all together. The writing is so smooth one would never know of the author's travels, expeditions and round the world interviews to bring the truth of the day to light. Anyone interested in cross cultural studies, mountain climbing, trekking and travel will dive right into this book. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book go to a special memorial fund. I hope many people will read this informative book.

by
Tom Brokaw

I'm impressed by this book. It is humane, conversational and full of relevant information to understand the USA in present time. A famous journalist, TV correspondent and Grandfather all rolled into one amazing commentary on how we (those who live in the USA) got to where we are. The impact of this book is, "Thank you for putting current circumstances in a recent historical perspective while making the reading so smooth. The book continues to offer a compilation of personal stories and contributions of various citizens. I learned, enjoyed and would highly recommend The Time of Our Lives by Tom Brokaw

This is a unique read. The characters come alive from the first moment. I first learned of Shantaram from my daughter. She read it on her iphone(yes! iphone) just after leaving the revolution in Egypt this year.

I just couldn't put this book down! I bought it for a long plane ride. Great choice for long plane rides. I kept reading it once I got to my destination and finished on my return flight. Such great enjoyment to read a really good story. I hope everyone will read this, on land, in the air or on the sea!
