Penguin Dictionary Of Symbols
by
Jean Chevalier

I teach courses in Dreams and Tarot, so I am constantly reviewing books on symbolism. I find this dictionary to be the best of its type for an in-depth, multi-cultural understanding of symbols.

Animal Wise The Spirit Language & Signs of Nature
by
Ted Andrews

I confess - I am a fan of Ted Andrew's writing in general. This book I'd rate as my second favorite. In it he refines what he started with his book: Animal Speak. As with Animal Speak, I find this book helpful in dream interpretation and for helping me to understand and appreciate all the creatures around us. I also use it to help me when I give intuitive readings. Often people have animal helpers that appear in their dreams - I use this book and Animal Speak to help others work with their totem animals.

I highly recommend this book for many purposes: 1) to help you understand animals that appear in your dreams. 2) to encourage you to become attuned to the natural world. 3) for the guided meditations and exercises. This is a book I go back to over and over again.

Psychic Side Of Dreams
by
Hans Holzer

Holzer's style is sometimes a bit pedantic, but the ideas and the content are good. This book includes many fascinating and compelling anecdotes and case histories. He also lists some other great source materials for people who want to continue their metaphysical studies.
