Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Why Men Hate Going To Church
by
David Murrow
Fred Wilcoxson
, January 21, 2010
David Murrow doesn't hold out much hope for calling men back to the church, as long as the church stays the same as it is now. He offers rather that we must call the church back to men. This means changing the way we think about the needs of men both spiritually and emotionally. All of what Murrow has to say makes very good sense, is workable, and worth a try. For Pastors and lay leaders this is a must read. Then have the Women read its companion book which solicits the help of the women of the church. This is certainly not a boring book, but rather a good but not difficult read.

Dancing Between Two Worlds Jung & the Native American Soul
by
Fred Gustafson
Fred Wilcoxson
, February 27, 2009
This excellently written piece by Fred Gustafson, a senior analyst at the Chicago Society of Jungian Analysts, is a noteworthy comparison of Jungian thoughts on the Psyche and American Indian Spirituality. It is a wonderfully pleasant read, yet carries a powerful message to those who are interested in the "recovery/rediscovery of the soul." Anyone interested in spirituality and science will love this book.
