Memnoch The Devil Vampire Chronicles 05
by
Anne Rice

My 2nd favorite Vampire Chronicles book, behind Blood and Gold. This story follows Lestat as he is guided by a demon through the passage of time, the development of Heaven, Earth, and Hell, and to the modern age. It was the beginning of Anne Rice's exploration of more religious themes, however the book has plenty of darkness and sex to satisfy long time Vampire Chronicles readers. It's a beautifully written book that combines anthropology, religious evolution, and vampires in a way that makes it all make sense. Like all Anne Rice books, I find they are so engrossing that once I start I simply cannot put it down.

Vampire Lestat Vampire Chronicles 2
by
Anne Rice
satin worship
, July 11, 2013
Very well could be considered a mondern-day classic. Anne Rice has a gift with words which allows you to immerse yourself in the characters and the world they inhabit. Even though the book is set in the 1980's, re-reading this recently I found that it had aged very well. The Vampire Lestat is a continuation of the character we first met in Interview with a Vampire, only focusing more on the troublesome and sexy antics of the rebellious vampire who seems intent on creating as much mayhem as possible. If you are a fan of more recent vampire tales you owe it to yourself to give this a read. It's witty, sexy, and charming in a way that the original Dracula stories weren't, but still holds to the core of the vampire mythos.

One Minute Manager

I read this book for a project at work. Personally, I thought it made a few good points on how to increase the effectiveness of the little time you have to manage your workforce. The book itself is short enough you could read it in an evening or over a few lunch breaks. However, I did not like how the book buries the information amid stories and role playing scenarios. If you have trouble reading business books because you find non-fiction dry or difficult to absorb, try this book (and series). If you, like me, like facts and data presented at the forefront, with anecdotes as backup, you may not find this book enjoyable.

Another Roadside Attraction
by
Tom Robbins
satin worship
, September 25, 2008
I just finished this book, and I have to say Tom Robbins delivered another excellent read. It was a little less cohesive and scintillating than the other works by him I've read. The story follows Amanda, a very interesting character, as well as a few other characters that are caught up in the world with her. The first half of the story is about Amanda's overly colorful world and the cast of characters in it (and one really huge hot dog). The second half deals with the question: What would you do if you had the corpse of a very powerful figure in your pantry? It makes some very poignant statements about the world, that are just as true today as they were when he wrote the book.

The Curious World of Drugs and Their Friends: A Very Trippy Miscellany

After seeing this listed on Powell's website, I had to order it. It's very small and cute, and full of interesting facts. Some are funny, some are weird. I've had it in my house only a day and already four of my friends have sat down and read the entire thing, they love it! Now I just have to memorize some of the facts so I can impress people at parties.

Writers Resource A Handbook For Writing
by
Elaine P Maimon

I bought this book my freshman year of college, and I've used it faithfully every year since. This book is full of valuable knowledge about how to write papers, in easy to understand, detailed notes. What makes this book better than some of the ones I've seen my classmates use is that this book has numerous examples, from in-text citation samples to sample papers. This is the book to get if you need help moving between the different styles of writing, as well as basic rules and tips on how to write successfully. Every college student needs this book!

Across The Nightingale Floor 01 Sword Of the Warrior
by

I bought this book to have something quick and simple to read while waiting in traffic (which I do a lot of ). I was pleasantly surprised to find that this is a truly wonderful book. The main characters are introduced slowly, and therefore your affection for them builds as you read through the books. The stories themselves are entertaining, yet never farcical. The settings are beautiful, the heroes are noble, the heroines find great power, and end the end you can't wait to read the next one.

Coraline
by
Neil Gaiman
satin worship
, August 03, 2008
When they say that this book is a modern day "Alice in Wonderland" they don't lie. This book may seem deceivingly easy to read, but the simplicity belies a world so full of depth and color that even a well seasoned adult wanted to re-read it. You find yourself loving and admiring Coraline as she shows an adventurous spirit and purity of heart that many of us strive to obtain. Neil Gaiman is without a doubt one of the best writers in his (hard to identify) genre, and his foray into children's fiction is nothing less splendid than his adult works. Buy this book for a child, or just for your inner child, trust me you won't be disappointed.

Im Just Here for More Food Food X Mixing Heat Baking
by
Alton Brown

, July 11, 2008
Geeks need love in the kitchen, too. Alton Brown has been teaching the technologically savvy how to cook to impress for years. This books deals entirely with baking, from his famous "muffin method" to gooey chocolate cakes, and teaches you EVERYTHING you need to know to approach the art of baking with knowledge. He lays everything out in simple to understand methods, while teaching you why things happen the way they do. This book makes a great gift, too, because it's more than a cook book. It's a book that teaches you how to make dishes to impress, while teaching you facts about the food you are making...which can make you the star of any party.

Loch

As a child I was fascinated with anything concerning magic, mythical creatures, and scary stories. This book has all three! A brother and sister brave fearsome (sometimes) creatures and adults to do the right thing, and learn some lessons along the way. It's a fast paced, easy to read book for pre-teens (although I still read it from time to time and I'm an adult).

The Vampire Lestat: Vampire Chronicles 2
by
Anne Rice
satin worship
, July 06, 2008
Anne Rice has created the most widely know vampire characters of the century, and this is just another great book about them. This was the first Vampire chronicles book I read and it's still on my top five list. As the name implies, it's mainly concerned with the Vampire Lestat and his undead hijinks. With Rice's silky smooth words and and enigmatic front man leading the story this book is never dull and very entertaining.

Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates
by
Tom Robbins

, July 05, 2008
If you haven't read Tom Robbins, you need to buy this book right now. I've read just about every book by him, and this is still my favorite. Tom Robbins writes like he can read your mind, and pours your every shameful desire into well crafted prose. He writes morals without being preachy, he writes sensuality without being dirty, and he writes some of the best fiction in the world that will never go out of style.
