, September 15, 2008
Succinct and Informative In this book, Dr. Jean Murray does a great job describing all of the elements of writing business proposals. The book lays out the reasons why business proposal are needed, who primarily requests business proposals, and what are the reasons for submitting business proposals. She artfully describes how to use a proposal to sell one’s company and obtain the purpose for which the proposal was written. Also, the book does a good job describing the various legal ramifications involved in writing a proposal. She explains the precautions and legal safeguards which need to be taken when writing various business proposals. The book also informs one how to properly arrange and format the contents of the proposal; thus, making it more aesthetically pleasing to its audience while adhering to the format requested by the company for which the proposal was written. The book explains how appropriate design and formatting can set you apart from the other proposals which companies receive and which will in turn increase the likelihood of having your proposal accepted. In particular, the chapter explaining how visuals are used in proposals was superb in showing how data should be visual expressed in a proposal. In conclusion, this book provides important and detailed information for businessman and women at every level. Its information is given in a succinct straightforward manner which can be understood by a high school student, but this information has the detail and depth which make it useful to any CEO.

Your First Cruise: A Complete Guide to Planning and Attaining the Perfect Cruise Vacation
by
T. Brian Chatfield

, September 15, 2008
A Must Read for First Time Cruise Goers Author T. Brian Chatfield has put together a great book for those who have never enjoyed the pleasure and comforts of a cruise vacation. His book describes all of the necessary plans, preparations, and benefits that come from taking a cruise. Chatfield exudes the many positives which a cruise vacation provides while he explains the astute cruise traveler’s tricks of the trade. The book details all of the steps ones goes through when taking a cruise including why such a vacation is desirable, which type of cruise to select, what to pack, and how to make the most of your time on board. The book culminates by listing each cruise company and describing their package offerings. Particularly useful, is Chapter 7 where Chatfield lists which items are “necessities” when going on a cruise. The lists are orderly divided between male, female, electronic items, and “other” necessary items. Also, very helpful to first time cruisers is Chapter 10 where the book describes how to handle your first day on board. The author reveals steps which will prevent the first timer from experiencing premature cruise fatigue. It also tells how one should become acclimated to their new surroundings. In addition, ports of call are well explained. Chatfield does an excellent job describing what to expect when going ashore in a foreign territory. He discusses safety precautions as well as what to expect at various well known ports of call including the Bahamas, Hawaii, Aruba, and many, many others. The book does a very good job preparing one who has never taken a cruise, and it can even be helpful for a more experienced cruiser who is looking to get more out of their cruise vacation.

The Reverse Mortgage Book: Everything You Need to Know Explained Simply
by
Cindy Holcomb

, September 15, 2008
Thorough and Very Helpful In The Reverse Mortgage Book, Cindy Holcomb does an excellent job explaining the principles and complexities of the reverse mortgage. Holcomb places these complexities and principles in understandable language which those not educated in finance can understand. The book opens by effectively laying out the pros and cons involved in such a mortgage. Holcomb then shows who can best benefit from a reverse mortgage and why. But, I found the book to be particularly enlightening when Holcomb broke down the various reverse mortgages offered by Fannie Mae. Her classification of these types is very interesting, but more importantly it is essentially to any senior considering a reverse more. And, the book is so thorough that it even has a chapter describing the Canada’s CHIP (Canadian Home Income Plan) loan which is the Canadian version of the reverse mortgage. Also, the book describes how one receives their cash disbursements whether through lump sum, credit line, or monthly payments. It also puts forth the advantages and disadvantages of each, and the author does a very good job explaining how payment preference should be situation dependent. In addition, there were some very illuminating chapters which described the step by step process of taking out a reverse mortgage, frequently asked questions, and pitfalls which one should avoid. Here, I thought Holcomb was responsible in emphasizing that a reverse mortgage is not free money and will one day have to be paid off. All in all, I felt that the book did a great job explaining the reverse mortgage, and it is written in a language which aging seniors can understand. This is important because seniors need to know both the benefits and drawbacks which come with these mortgages.
