Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Wyrd Sisters: Discworld 6
by
Terry Pratchett

Terry Pratchett has fun with so much; Shakespear, Death, Ghost, and Theater to name a few. Granny Weatherax and her little coven get center stage in this one, and it is laugh out loud funny.

What Mrs Mcgillicuddy Saw
by
Agatha Christie

Classic Agatha Christie! We have a family mansion, trainrides, and all kinds of suspects. This is the book that Margarat Rutherford made Murder She Said out of. They are ,of course , not quite the same. Enjoy a classic by the Master.

Perfect Storm a True Story of Men Against the Sea
by
Sebastian Junger
James Raglin
, May 27, 2010
Sebastian Junger has written a true page turner. Do not begin this book until you will have time to finish it. The way he presents it, you don't have to know or even particularly care about the ocean, fishing, boats or seamen. He puts together a very tight and interesting true story of several people who were all caught by a massive storm and their circumstances. He also will take you back into history which is not in the least bit dry or boring. First class read and two thumbs up!!

Sherlock Holmes Vs Dracula
by
Loren D Estleman
James Raglin
, August 30, 2009
Estleman does a great job and has a lot of fun with this 'Newly Discovered' manuscript. He ask all of us die hard Holmes fans to forget the entire library that Doyle left us and believe the Sherlock is out chasing vampires. I read very few of these later stories, but this one is a joyride. Estleman catches the A.C.Doyle spirit just right. Heartily recommended!
