Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Beka Cooper 02 Bloodhound

I love Tamera Pierce's books and Bloodhound is Great! I recommend this for both male and female teens and adult readers. All her books are wonderful adventures with a little bit of magic thrown in. Good Values. The slang and Dialect she uses in the story are great fun and very creative.

Beka Cooper 01 Terrier
by

I loved this story. Usually I find female character stereotypical and boring, but Beka Cooper is a strong and fascinating female protagonist. In fact, all the characters in this story are very good. I loved Goodwin and Tunstall; they were great secondary characters that made up for Beka's quiet nature. The world is rich and vibrant, with enough dark to make it realistic.

This novel is terrific! I was so engaged in the story that after three Starbucks concoctions i was still not ready to close the hardback.

I love Vonnegut, he's one of my favorite authors, but I had never read this book. I could NOT put it down. I don't have a lot of time to read, but I managed to finish this in 3 days. Definitely one of my new favorite books...

Borden Chantry

Louis LAmour

This book gives you the thrills of living in wild country, right from your own home! Louis L'amour is a famous author, but totally down to earth about what happened in our "Old West."

This is a wonderful biography, full of telling details and written by an author who knew Crick personally. Provides the best account to date of the sequence of events and thinking that led to fundamental understanding of molecular genetics.

Darkside Zodiac
by
Stella Hyde
gen08
, October 14, 2008
This is my all time favorite astrology book dealing with the negative side of the signs. The set up with colorful pages makes it a pleasure to read. The best part is that the book brings up planetary combinations such as Sun in Gemini/Venus in Leo which takes it a step further than most "dark side" astrology books that exclusively focus on the sun sign.

Elements of Style 4th Edition
by
William Strunk
gen08
, October 12, 2008
There's a reason why Elements of Style has been around so long: it contains plenty of precious gems of advice to guide the high school student, while delivering plenty of reminders for the seasoned writer. During my academic career, as a student and instructor, I've had dozens of writing handbooks come across my desks. Since 1976, this is the one book to which I've turned for help, again and again.
