Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. The Social Security & Medicare Handbook: What You Need to Know Explained Simply
by
Leonard, V. R.

, November 11, 2008
This step-by-step process of how to apply and maximize your chances of being accepted to a top graduate school is extremely thorough. I found it to be very supportive of prospective students that set their goals high and useful by providing a breakdown of how to master the application process. The author outlines explicit guidelines, including tips for entrance exams and setting a schedule for applying that can be very beneficial when in a competitive situation. This book gives readers an “edge” over other candidates by detailing exactly what committees and faculty advisors are thinking on the other end of your submission. Star rating: 4

The Complete Guide to Robert's Rules of Order Made Easy: Everything You Need to Know Explained Simply
by
Rita Cook

The author was able to explain a complex legislative idea in an extremely simplified manner. For someone who had no idea what Robert’s Rules were before reading this book, it is impressive how easily understood the concepts could be. Cook provides an interesting description of how Robert’s Rules came to be which fluidly sets the foundation for understanding its basis. Information is organized logically and examples/instruction are used to apply the rules to the reader’s own business or group endeavors. I would recommend this book as a fantastic guide for anyone who needs to acquire skills on how to manage a productive meeting of individuals. Star rating: 5
