The collection of stories from wide range of best-selling authors from fantasy, science fiction, and romance exploring cross genres for love stories. This is a great collection of stories with a story for everyone from a period romance, ghost story, to a new apocalyptic world. Some of the notable stories by Neil Gaiman, Marjorie M. Liu, and Carrie Vaugh. This is a great book to check out new writers, new genres, or just enjoy your a new story by your favorite writer.

The Coffins of Little Hope

A story about a forgotten small town and the change to the town and people when a young woman, Daisy, reports her daughter missing. The story unfolds through the reflections of an elderly obituary writer in short narratives on the events that lead up to the disappearance of the daughter, the lives of the people in the town, and the family of the writer. The book is structured in several parts with many short chapters jumping from one character to another making the first impressions of the characters less memorable. The theme of story focuses on neglect of a small rural town and the characters neglect of each other. The pacing is slow and for some may be reflective of a nostalgic view of a dying town.

Cold Magic Spiritwalker Trilogy Book 1

Cold Magic focuses on the events surrounding a young woman, Catherine, in which she is the focus of political intrigue. During these events her eyes will be opened to the variety of circumstances people in her land live in and the social unrest of many. She'll come to terms with the truth that has been kept from her and have to make up her mind to whom to trust in a world during an industrial revolution, old world magic, and princes. The story is a fast paced adventure of a re-imagining of our world in 1837 based on the effects of the Roman Empire had lasting longer and elemental mages (Air, Fire, Earth, and Water, which for some reason is referred to as Cold) gaining control of land and people. The new world includes new cultural mixes including the Mande/Celtic mix of the Cold mages. Though a fascinating mix, I found the lack of blending into a new cultural self, since it has been many years since the cultural exchange, out of the ordinary. Especially when their ceremonial and cultural clothing is exclusively African and doesn't exhibit elements from both cultures or take into consideration that they live in world of ice and snow. Thankfully though this is a minor issue since the story and characters were more interesting. I will be looking forward to her next installment.
