Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. 8 Steps to a Pain Free Back Remember When It Didnt Hurt
by
Esther Gokhale
Beverly Solomon
, February 17, 2009
As a former model, I have practiced "good posture" but to my surprise, I would have back pain on occasion. "8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back" is one of the most fascinating books I have ever read on the human anatomy. Esther Gokhale takes you on a highly visual journey around the world that shows people of other cultures doing hard labor. Unlike the west, these people are virtually pain-free with beautiful posture. Despite their status in the world, these people walk, stand and sit like royalty. Gokhale teaches us in 8 steps how to correct our body structure through specifically designed exercises. I suggest geting this book BEFORE you experience back pain. And please give this book to anyone suffering with back pain. "8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back" by Esther Gokhale should be in everyone's library next to the Family Medical Guide.

Talk Like a Winner 21 Simple Rules for Achieving Everyday Communication Success
by
Steve Nakamoto
Beverly Solomon
, December 27, 2008
In today's world, a civilized conversation almost seems like a lost art. Steve Nakamoto's book "Talk Like a Winner" puts civility and enjoyment back into conversing with your fellow man. Nakamoto has organized his book into easily understandable chapters of 21 rules. The rules are so common sense, it makes one wonder why everyone isn't a good conversationalist naturally. I recommend reading one chapter/one rule a day and applying that knowledge in the next day's conversation. You will be amazed how quickly your new skills will become second nature. Now enjoy the good life with good conversatons and being a winner!

In this book, Dr. Jan Yager carefully guides you through the many stages of friendship that are so necessary for a healthy and balanced life. She explains friendships of every sort, from the casual acquaintance to the coveted best friend for life. She also tells you how to cultivate and maintain these precious relationships but most important, how to avoid the pseudo-friendship that could become toxic to your life. This book should be a basic in your library along with a good cookbook and an etiquette book.
