Cutting Off a Whale's Head

Although I've haven't heard much about this book, the title intriqued me enough to buy it. Most of the book entails the life of a ruined businessman Cree, about to lose his house in the recession, whose given a chance to earn a hundred grand if he manages to obtain the head off a dead whale beached on a pile under the Golden Gate bridge. And although at times his life's story was interesting enough to keep me reading, there were times when I just wanted the author to get to the 'act' mentioned in the title. This doesn't show up until about 3/4th's of the way through the book. Overall, an interesting read and commentary on the aftermath of the Great Recession of 2007.

Except for the torturously long wait for this book, it was well worth reading. The plot gets a little complicated in the middle (it seems like there's way too many side stories going on) but it all gets finish to my satisfaction. Hoping the next book doesn't take as long to wait for (but I'm not betting on it).
