Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Flawed though the book may be, it is the best assessment of our Western world going. And, it's fun to read. I doubt that it will move at all in Portland because we are a pretty feckless group. However, it is the one book everyone should read about our times.

Moment of Truth in Iraq

Actually, I return to comment on your poorly punctuated inane description of Yon's effort. The "vivid and shocking," etc. gives the impression that this book is something other than what it is. Powell's best serves the Utne Reader and alternative erotica crowd. It doesn't do so well with serious efforts about difficult subjects. Why don't you just chuck the Yon book out so that honest people might find it on their own, w/out your kid stuff?

My prior comment was intended to refer to the material in the publishers section. However, your synopses section is of a separately book entirely. I have read Yon for years. Please understand that this book likely to be a classic. It is an important eyewitness testament. Please, get an honest and energetic adult in there and do justice to this book.

Why, on your landing page for this book in the synopses section are there are a series of question marks in that paragraph? They're pretty clearly some smart child's idea of sabotage. Please, play it straight. That's not a bad thing. Just giving the reader a square deal. Please, get an adult in there to do the job and give the kids games a rest.
