It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Call Me By Your Name
by
André Aciman

One of the best books I have read in a long time! A beautiful, poignant, emotional look at first love and the all encompassing way it touches a person. Aciman makes you feel as if you are right there in the Italian countryside falling in love alongside Elio.

by
Susannah Cahalan

I could not put this book down and read it in one sitting. A personal, engaging and fascinating look at Cahalan's battle with a rare illness and the hurdles that stood in the way of diagnosis and eventual recovery.

This is a quiet and beautiful story about how discovering the past can lead to an even brighter future. It is tender, romantic and touches on love and life in a way few books do. Easily one of my top reads last year.

Chasers of the Light Poems from the Typewriter Series
by
Tyler Knott Gregson

I was a fan of Tyler Knott Gregson's poetry for a couple of years before he published this collection and it was an absolute treat for his fans. The poems and photos are gorgeous, soothing and they touch not only the heart but the soul as well. I highly recommend this for anyone who ever had a dream and who knows that life can be magic if you just know where to look.

Still Life With Woodpecker
by
Tom Robbins
Rachel C

This is my all time favorite novel. Tom Robbins is a quirky, unconventional genius. There are so many hidden gems and nuggets of wisdom in this book. It is at times poignant, laugh out loud hilarious, and smart. It is always smart. True to Robbins' style it is unique in it's own right. And as a redhead, I love that "the trouble with redheads" is explored in this book. I first read it in my teens and it has stuck with me up to my mid 20s, and is something I will one day pass down to my own children when they are of age.

Generation Kill Devil Dogs Iceman Captain America & the New Face of American War
by
Evan Wright

A brilliant look inside the Iraq War. It's an honest piece from Evan Wright. I really enjoyed seeing the war from his perspective and from the point of view of the Marines that he embedded with. It is a very honest, brutally so at times look at the this period of time and it does not shy away from the horrors of war. I highly recommend this book and the miniseries that was produced from it.
