Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Chi Gung Chinese Healing Energy & Natural Magick

I really connected to Lily Carnie's book on the art of Chi Gung. The gorgeous cover with pine trees silhouetted against a purple/orange sunset gives you a glimpse of the beauty and soul within. She does a great job covering the regulations of mind, body and breath that are needed to do Chi Gung well. I also like that she includes a number of exercises that provide experience in learning to feel how the Chi flows within your own body. Ultimately though, I enjoyed the way Ms Carnie writes like she's talking directly to you. She shares her stories with you like you're having a coffeehouse chat on a lazy summer evening and I found that many of her experiences remind me of the wonder and delight I feel when standing outside at night and looking up into a sky full of stars. Engaging, fun and informative. You can't ask for more in a book.

Anatomy Of Movement 1st Edition
by
Blan Calais Germain

I love books that deal with interplay of muscle and bone that allows the body to move. Ms Germain's book is the one of the seminal works in this field and one of my favorites. It has a wealth of knowlege that's conveyed in simple drawings showing the bodys range of motion and how the muscles and skeleton work together to accomplish it. A great book for learning about the anatomy of movement.
