Waiter & Waitress & Waitstaff Training Handbook A Complete Guide to the Proper Steps in Service for Food & Beverage Employees
by
Lora Arduser
Escayola
, July 27, 2009
This handbook in a must for anyone in the restaurant business - from the restaurateur to the staff. It covers every aspect of restaurant service such as: the basics of waiting on tables; table settings; menu knowledge; customer service troubleshooting; wine and liquors/beverage service; tips, taxes and the IRS; security and sanitation/hygiene and that’s just to name a few! It is concise, useful and easy to read. Anyone in restaurant management should implement this manual into their training program as there are chapters devoted to the specific duties of each position in the restaurant service staff. The strength of this book lies in the idea that each restaurant employee in the service area is a “host” and the customer is their “guest” (as discussed in Chapter 3.) If you provide exceptional customer service and are knowledgeable about what your restaurant has to offer (from food to drinks) you will ensure a happy, loyal customer base that comes back again and again. This handbook teaches how to do just that - going the extra mile to provide the best service possible, even suggesting that you provide cameras for guests celebrating a special occasion and umbrellas should it be raining when they leave. It is this special attention to detail that makes this book excellent! Throughout the book there are photographs, illustrations/figures and helpful forms as well as Internet links offering additional information on topics discussed. The last chapter is like a bonus section of especially useful forms, posters, information and diagrams for restaurants taken from a book entitled “The Encyclopedia of Restaurant Forms” (Atlantic Publishing) which sounds like a good companion book to this one. If you are in the restaurant business or would like to learn more about what goes behind running a great restaurant (in terms of service) this book is for you. On an end note, part of the proceeds of the sale of this book go to The Humane Society of America, in memory of Bear, the book publisher’s (Atlantic Publishing) beloved dog. It is always nice to know that by purchasing this book, you are also donating to a great cause and getting a noteworthy read in return.

Manual de Entrenamiento Para Meseros Meseras y Personal Una Guia Completa Para Empleados Con los Pasos Correctos Para el Servicio de Comidas & Bebid
by
Lora Arduser
Escayola
, July 27, 2009

This guide book is excellent for those wishing to become citizens of the United States of America or those just wishing to learn more about the process. It contains everything you need to know about obtaining U.S. citizenship. The guide is divided into two parts. The first part: “How to Become a Citizen of the U.S.A.” explains, in detail, the process of becoming a citizen. It includes information on the USCIS; eligibility; prerequisites; visas; residency; Form N-400; the exam; the interview and more. The second part: “How to Study to Become a U.S. Citizen” contains all the study material needed to become a citizen. The chapters include concise lessons on U.S. history and the U.S. government. It also includes English language exercises and a citizenship practice test. One chapter is dedicated to the experiences people have had in obtaining their citizenship, written in their own words. The appendices and glossary are especially informative. The guide also includes a CD-Rom which complements the material found in the book. The CD-Rom is a great companion to the book, with extras like: more practice exams, forms and study aids. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to become a citizen or for someone who wants to learn more about U.S. citizenship. It is also a great book for anyone wanting to review U.S. history and how our government works (as discussed in part two of the guide.) On an end note, part of the proceeds of the sale of this book go to The Humane Society of America, in memory of Bear, the book publisher’s (Atlantic Publishing) beloved dog. It is always nice to know that by purchasing this book, you are also donating to a great cause and getting a very informative read in return.

Wall Street Lingo: Thousands of Investment Terms Explained Simply
by
Nora Peterson
Escayola
, July 27, 2009
No one interested in Wall Street should be without this excellent dictionary/reference book. It is especially good for those who are new to investing. Since many companies are no longer offering retirement plans, and with the ease of investing online, there are many do-it-yourself investors who really do not know much about the market. Furthermore, the financial pros use terms that are incomprehensible to the public. This can sometimes create a barrier that turns off the potential investor. This book seeks to dissolve that barrier, explaining in easy to understand language, the definitions of Wall Street jargon. What is nice about this book is that it you do not have to read the entire book if you do not want to (although it would be a good idea, as it is a great primer on Wall Street.) However, you can easily look up a term in the extensive index and read up on its meaning. Sometimes, a term will appear more than once wherever applicable. This is because the book is not set up like a regular A-Z dictionary. The book is divided into topic specific sections and within those sections, the A-Z terms are listed. Which works twofold because you can: 1) Look up a word to define or 2) Look up a topic and read up on it. There are extras in the book like: highlighted boxes giving you more information on certain terms; Internet links; sections on initials and symbols and what they stand for; etc. The author, Nora Peterson, is a retired market analyst (30 years in the business) and business writer, so she knows her material. She makes the jargon of Wall Street easy to understand. On an end note, part of the proceeds of the sale of this book go to The Humane Society of America, in memory of Bear, the book publisher’s (Atlantic Publishing) beloved dog. So this book is a great investment with a nice return.

La Jerga de Wall Street: Miles de Terminos Sobre Inversion Explicados Simplemente
by
Peterson, Nora
Escayola
, July 27, 2009
