Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. And Now We Have Everything: On Motherhood Before I Was Ready
by
Meaghan O'Connell
Abigail Connelly
, May 04, 2018
I have two young children and I chanced upon this book during one of our many long nights. It was totally an impulse buy and worth every cent. Meaghan had the courage to put a real face on the fears, pains and neuroses of the transformation to motherhood that so many of us have. I was so relieved to find a truthful, unvarnished account among all of the overly happy books on mothering. I even asked my husband to read this.

Krispos Rising Tale Of Krispos 01

This is a fun story. It has barbarians, monks and a unique little world with a distinctly roman aftertaste. My husband bought this for me for fun and I look forwards to reading the second and third books. The author dives headlong into his world and lets loose with this story about a peasant farmer and his unique life. Though there are no explanations for some of the basic terms in the beginning, you'll catch up as you go. I rather like this aspect of storytelling though, it lets you come back and dive right in without having to do all the boring orientation paths again. It is also worthy to note the author's dedication to real characters. Nobody seems to be "good" or "evil." everyone does good and bad as real people would. This is quite refreshing.
