Patti Smith is a wonderful writer. This story is so beautiful, of being in the right place at the right time with the right person and all of the magic that happens when that occurs. I love love love this book! It is so wonderful that Patti not only can remember and recite her story in such vivid detail, but also that she does so with such honesty and straightforwardness (as only a New Yorker is able to do). While reading this book I felt like I was there and I felt how special that time was - such a perfect storm of circumstance and timing. So many creative and talented people coming into contact with one another in a city like no other on earth. As I read, I wished I had been able to live in the Chelsea Hotel at that time and be a part of all that happened there. It's a fairy tale to me, one I could, and probably will, read over and over again.

It's not even out yet but I know it will be priceless. I am a long time fan of Patti Smith. She is an amazing person and incredible personality. I love her music, her poetry, her art, her aesthetic, and her! I was working in New York when she made her comeback in 1996. She performed at Summer Stage in Central Park. When she came out on stage (the concert was sold out and the park was PACKED) she said she knew we would come, that others had had their doubts (meaning the record label), but she knew we would come. I got to see her many, many times in the next 5 years - her birthday series of concerts at Bowery Ballroom every year an awesome spectacle. The People Have the Power!!! I met her at a book signing in New York for Patti Smith Complete. She was very angry and in a bad mood and scared the crap out of me! I moved to Seattle in 2002 and in 2005 Patti Smith was a keynote speaker at the ROCKRGRL Music Conference. She performed with Lenny Kaye at the Crocodile Cafe, a show I will never forget and am still in awe that I was there. Steven Sebring's recent film Dream of Life (about Patti) is a beautiful glimpse into her life and her psyche. This new book will be another glimpse. I can't wait to read it!
