Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. The Road

Cormac McCarthy

Most of the time when you read the word' "post-apocalyptic America" on the back of a book a few things flash through your mind. Mostly cheesy sci-fi movies from the 80's right? Well Cormac McCarthy's vision will forever huant you, if you dicide to give it a try. His display of the simple love of a father, and the greater gumption of humanity, will bring you to tears. I felt i was in the torn burned america, the father and son's small and great victorys were mine too as well as there heart breaks. From the first words to the last i was captivated, Cormac McCarthy writes with a dark poetry that flows of the page and sticks in your mind long after you've closed the book.

Bleeding Violet

Dia Reeves

Browse about the "Teen supernatural Romance" section of the bookstore long enough, and you'll start to notice a pattern. Girl meets mysterious boy, girl can't get boy out off her head, boy says they shouldn't be together, girl ends up with boy, awww, love wins in the end... right? Well it seems that someone has finally come up with a story that isn't a knock-off of a well know vampire story with one of the main characters named Edward. Dia Reeves creates a character with serious issues aka shes bi-polar. You find yourself feeling sorry for her, laughing with and crying. The fact that she moves to a place that crazy supernatural stuff goes on is little more than an interesting side note. All the characters in this book are real and down to earth and real, makeing it easy for you to get lost in there world. If your in the mood for somthing with supernatural events, a bit of romance, a twinge of insanity, and a whole lot of original, then look no futher.
