Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. What an astonishing book... sent to me out of the blue by my dear cousin, who knows me well. I've learned so much from this beautiful, surprising book... not only about times I've lived through, but about events and elements in love and war that I had (questionably) never thought about. To me, the main point of this book is the interaction of four generations of very different people, living lives that intersect oddly, but with true compassion. Much about this masterpiece of a book seems to come to the reader as a shock that should have been expected, but couldn't be... the communication between the disparate characters is more about real love than mere language comprehension.

This is an enjoyable, involving book, I loved it. There were times I hated to put it aside and leave the lives of the intensely likeable people in the book. Besides that, I re-discovered an interest in hypnosis (and self hypnosis) as a way to be in touch with myself. I will read other work by Liane Moriarty... she has mastered the art of making a reader examine their own feelings. Smart lady!
