Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy

I have read many books about grief and loss and facing adversity and this one will be counted as one of the best. The author's writing style is easy to read and understand and can be related to even if your losses are different from those of the author or stories within. Loved the book and would recommend it to anyone who is searching to find support at a difficult time.

Claire & Present Danger

Amanda Pepper and Ck Mackenzie are two of the most pleasant mystery characters out there. Gillian Roberts' books are great easy reads that keep you engaged from beginning to end. This book continues the story of Amanda CK, weaving these likable characters through life's little trials with a good mystery folded into the mix.

True Detectives

Kellerman again has brought us another great duo of characters. The book started off a bit slow but true to his style it picks up speed and the plot once again kept me in my seat till I could finish the book. I hope that he continues to develop these characters as he did with Sturgis and Delaware as they both have great potential.

This was the first book of Charles Todd that I had ever read. His characters come to life on the page and the mysteries surrounding the stories keep you going until the last page.

This Is Where I Leave You
by

I started reading this book thinking it would be like so many other books of its type. Dysfunctional family dramas with the standard plot line and conclusion. I was surprised to find that with each twist and turn I became more enamored with the characters. This was a great book and although at times it wrenched my heart it ended the way real life really does with the rest of the story yet to be written.
