The Complete Guide to Planning Your Estate in New York: A Step-By-Step Plan to Protect Your Assets, Limit Your Taxes, and Ensure Your Wishes Are Fulfi
by

A Detailed Reference **** The authors of The Complete Guide to Planning your Estate in New York are obviously well-intentioned. They make it clear that they want to help people protect and provide for their families and that they want them to do it in a timely fashion so that no detail is left unconsidered. This is noble and necessary, but it does not save the book from being extremely dry and a touch overwhelming in its ‘no stone unturned’ approach. That being said, the authors make it clear that this book is mainly a primer and that many hired professionals such as attorneys, financial planners and insurance brokers must be consulted in the process of estate planning. The authors give detailed consideration to all aspects of estate planning, including wills, trusts, life insurance, taxes, probate court, living gifts and final expenses. To their credit they don’t shy away from helping people with debt – giving them options on how their beneficiaries can best manage it, and they give considerable space to discussing how primary breadwinners can choose options that allow their families to access needed funds while their assets may be held up with probate or other delays. I also commend their appendices which function as a series of worksheets to lay out as meticulous or as simple an estate plan as needed. All in all, with the help of the appropriate professionals, this book could be quite the helpful tool in estate preparation

365 Ways To Motivate & Reward Your Nonprofit Volunteers Every Day With Little Or No Money
by
Melissa Sequeira

, April 19, 2010
A “People First” Approach ***** The first thing that comes to mind while reading 365 Ideas for Recruiting, Retaining, Motivating and Rewarding Your Volunteers is the tone of respect and appreciation that the author has for people willing to volunteer their time to an organization. They make sure to say that the time is not ‘free’, but rather is a ‘gift’. What follows is a well laid out discussion of how to recruit, reward and keep volunteers. While keeping the focus on a ‘hands-on’ personal approach, the author goes through advice on how to interview, evaluate and get the most out of volunteer workers. They discuss staff-volunteer relations, how to handle possible conflicts and how to keep everyone comfortable and working together harmoniously. With helpful summaries at the end of each chapter to keep the reader on track and availed of a quick reference guide, the author does not shy away from meticulous detail in their approach and handles topics from fundraising to creating a company brand with skill and confidence. This book is a must-read for any organization looking to recruit a quality volunteer workforce.

The Bride & Groom's Wedding Checklist & Planner Guide [With CDROM]

Grenier, Heather

I Wish I had this when I got married ***** The Bride and Groom’s Wedding Checklist and Planner Guide is an excellent resource for engaged couples. It is exhaustively detailed and set out in a user-friendly chronological format that takes the couple from proposal to honeymoon. It provides tools such as checklists, worksheets, lists of questions to ask hired professionals and case studies from couples who have had successful weddings as well as advice those who work in the field. This book is designed specifically to de-stress the engaged couple, their friends and families. The focus is on presenting every detail and possible challenge with a variety of approaches and solutions. This allows the couple to enjoy their engagement and the process of wedding planning – previously an oft dreaded chore. I found the author’s inclusion of not often discussed wedding topics such as finding the proper dress for one’s body type, using the engagement party to help families get to know one another, detailed advice on the process of changing one’s name, and very thorough advice on choosing the groom’s attire to be thoughtful and refreshing. It is clear that the author wants their readers to have a beautiful and enjoyable wedding process and it is this caring tone that sets this wonderful and indispensable book apart from others of its kind.
