Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Palace Chronicles 02 Palace Of Mirrors

Imagine being trapped in a house almost all your life. Thinking you were the princess not able to come out of hiding. This is the life of Cecilia, the main character in the book, Palace of Mirrors. Cecilia knows she is the real princess, and sets out to find the truth. This is a thrilling book with friendship, trust, and adventure. Palace of Mirrors, is a great book for preteens and young adults. I liked this book because it is very descriptive. The thing that made me really want to read it is this quote. "Somewhere in the world I have a tiara in a little box. It is not safe for me to wear it...,It is not safe for me even to tell anyone who I really am. But I know - I have always known. "

Double Identity

Double Identity is an entertaining story about the science of cloning. The main character, Bethany, realizes there is more about her boring and "normal" life than her parents are telling her. With only one clue from her father, she sets off to uncover the secrets of her family's past. This book is a page-turner filled with suspense, action, and family drama. Double Identity is a book suitable for older elementary kids. I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a mysterious story filled with adventure.

Chronicles of Prydain 01 Book Of Three

The Book Of Three is a short Medieval Time fairytale with all kinds of characters. A group of friends go on a journey to save a pig, but not just any kind of pig. Soon, after what starts out to be a walk through the forest, turns into a peasant boy finding his inner hero. This is a great read for young adults who face similar problems as the characters in this book. During their journey Taran makes many mistakes, which in some cases lead to disaster, but he learns from them and moves on. I think the themes in this book are important and well explained. One of them is, you can not judge someone by what they appear to be like on the outside. But you have to look deeper to find their true personality.
