Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

I Wonder
by
Marian Bantjes
Peg
, May 21, 2012
If you did nothing but lose yourself in this book's illustrations, you would be overwhelmed by the gifts of author Marian Bantjes and her talent for graphic design. Open to any page and find a feast for your eyes. Then read her words - her thoughts and research on wonder - and you'll realize that Bantjes is an artist with words as well. The book is a delight from beginning to end; even closed the gilt-edged pages and elegant gold- and silver-embossed covers say, "This book is a treasure."

Tomorrow Adventures in an Uncertain World
by
Bradley Trev Greive
Peg
, March 16, 2011
I discovered this book on a day when the world desperately needs a smile, a chuckle of recognition, and a calm, sure voice telling us that we will survive and receive the extraordinary gift of Tomorrow. The photos are perfect illustrations of author Bradley Trevor Greive's message. The book is a keeper and also a perfect gift.

Who Moved My Mouse A Self Help Book for Cats Who Dont Need Any Help
by
Dena Harris
Peg
, November 26, 2010
Dena Harris' book is a delightful parody of all those popular self-help books you've ever read. The very concept - self help for cats - is downright silly, because if there's any creature on Earth that thinks it is already perfect, it's a cat. "Who Moved My Mouse?" would be a great gift for any cat lover on your list. Just leave enough time because you'll find yourself reading it - and laughing - before you give it away!
