Isle of Night The Watchers
by
Veronica Wolff

, September 06, 2011
Drew packs up for college and hopes for a new life...that's exactly what she gets. Its what the stranger Ronan promises. She's whisked away to a mysterious island with hopes of finally fitting in somewhere. What she does get is a big surprise. Drew is one of many girls that were brought to the island to become Watchers - girls who are partnered with vampires and assist them on their missions. Its either become a Watcher or death, so Drew is determined to beat all the other girls. Losing is not optional. Okay, so this is hard not to compare to Vampire Academy. The vampires are like the Moroi and the Watchers are like the Dhampir from what I gather. The start is slow, but once she gets on the jet heading to the island, it starts to pick up. I like Drew, she is a likeable enough protagonist. I like how feisty she is. How she does but doesn't know when to shut up. I like that she isn't afraid to stand up for herself and it killed me when she asked, "Are you shittin' me?" and change "Damned" to "Doggone". :) She gives you are few laughs. If you like books on killings and lots of death, this is for you. If your looking for romance, not much in this book, but I have a feeling that there will be plenty to come in the sequels. :)

Perfect Chemistry 03 Chain Reaction

This book is the 3rd to Simone Elkeles Perfect Chemistry series. I have loved every one. The stories are so realistic and I can relate to them all. I found them each hard to put down. I mean, they are hilarious and heart-stopping and just bursting with young love and drama. I can't get enough which is why I read them over and over. Its amazing how caught up you can get even a second time reading it. With one POV male and the other female you get both sides of the story and there's so much more captured in the book that way. You know both characters feelings and thoughts. The story has more depth that way. This is a story sure to make you smile at some point.

I love books like this, with gang issues. It lets you know how real it is for some people who either have no choice but to join to make their families safe or just to have some people to back them up when they need it but the stronger ones are the ones who get out. I really liked this book.

Forget You

Zoey. Yeah, I didn't like her too much. Or I guess I just don't understand her. She got on my nerves how oblivious she was to things. She noticed things but just looked passed them and it got annoying. For example...Brandon! That boy was such a user! Sure they were friends before they hooked up but its not like that meant anything to him. You could see that much! And then there's Doug. I love Doug. He's sweet, protective, caring and wants something real with her and she just makes him wait and wait and wait for NOTHING! Ugh, if I were him I probably would have taken the route Zoey's mom took for falling in love with a girl so annoying and stupid. She made herself look like an idiot so many times acting like she knew everything that went on that night when she didn't have a clue. And her DAD! Goodness, I hate that man! I don't see how parents can treat their children that way. I was surprised at how freaky they got in this book. Never read a YA book like this. ha ha. Overall not a complete waste of time. You should read.

Abandon

** spoiler alert ** Okay. 2 stars...yeah, that's all I can give. I never really got into the story. It was pretty weird and seemingly uneventful to me. There was nothing that made me say, "Oh my goodness! I can not believe that just happened!" There wasn't any part that I especially liked. It was just kind of dull to me which is disappointing because I liked Meg's other fantasy series and this one is just something to read for the hell of it. Its kinda like Lake Placid. Calm waters and then out of no where your grandma comes to eat you in the form of a big alligator and you just had no clue despite the chomped up body parts being found and the disappearance of fish. Or of a b%&$&y grandma that gave you and your necklace that warns you of evil bad vibes? hmmmm...fishy. Bummer! But its okay, don't cry because you have your personal death deity to save you and take you to his big mansion in the ground. Oh your going to cry anyway aren't you? Well you just go on ahead. You will get over it one day even if it takes years... :/

Perfect You
by
Elizabeth Scott
Stormy

This story was great. Its about a girl named Kate. Kate has a brother named Todd that stays on the couch after four years of college to freeload off his parents who are having problems of their own. Kate's dad went to work and found his desk and all his belongings broken and wrecked. Just one thing lay on his deck completely whole and unbroken, a bottle of Perfect You vitamins. so, seeing this as some kind of 'sign' he quit his job and decided to buy a whole shipment or something of the dumb vitamins and sell vitamins at the mall. More advertising happens then actual sales but its his DREAM. When he actually has his kids doing most of the work while he goes off on his many whims. He spends what little money the family has and in his free time plays video games. (My dad could never keep a job and always wanted to play Xbox more than anything...my mom always picked the crazy careers like Pro Wrestling...and Alligator handling...Seriously, no lie. Life is hard and humiliating!) Kate's best friend, Anna, ditched her to become popular after coming back from her Aunt's fat camp or something over the summer totally transformed into the model type to get her dream guy and being totally fake. She wants to be popular with her fake friends and have Kate to be there for her for everything that's real in her life that she can't talk to with the cool kids because she's afraid that they will use it against her, make fun of her, and see her as the fat girl she use to be. I just really hated her! She was so pathetic and couldn't see that she was ruining her life! I was surprised it took Kate so long to see that Anna was using her and didn't feel sorry for anything that Anna did to her. Aggravating! Kate's life is falling down all around her, especially when Kate's grandmother comes to 'help' with the family's situation. I liked her grandmother despite all the vain things she had to say. She knew what she was talking about even though everyone was too pigheaded to listen to her. I felt sorry for her because everyone was at her throat or making her the butt of the joke. Will, he was the nice. Really nice! I feel for him at his first appearance in the story. He was funny and real. Kate frustrated me with her blindness of his true character. You could see from the beginning that he liked her but I understand why she was so hesitant. I've been there and it didn't turn out quite as happily. I love that in this book all the drama is crazy but realistic

Story of a Girl
by
Sara Zarr
Stormy
, August 15, 2011
Deanna Lambert was thirteen when her father caught her with her older brother's friend in a car. Since that moment even three years later her dad hasn't forgotten and won't forgive her. He accuses and seems to think the worst of her and the rest of the family. Deanna's brother Darren and his girlfriend Stacy live in the basement with their baby girl April. They struggle with their jobs, the baby, and high emotions. All the troubles of being young parents. Deanna has two best friends. Lee and Jason. Of course they are a couple and Deanna is the third jealous wheel. I'm still confused after reading this book what's the deal with their relationships and friendships as of now. The ending was cut off and unclear. This is really a story about forgiveness and the strength to keep pushing through the hard times. Bettering yourself not just for the sake of others but because you want it too. And faith

I honestly don't know what the point of this story was as sad as that is to say. I was reading it trying to figure out what was going to happen only to find out that nothing really happens in the end. Lame. Anyway, this is not my kind of story. It got on my nerves trying to figure out why two people can stay so mad and distant over petty crap and love each other at the same time. They betrayed each other over and over but it was okay. Ugh, not worth my time.

Texas Gothic

This story is very different. The Goodnights are a family of witches (just the females as far as I could tell with Uncle Burt the ghost) and each have an affinity or a special skill. Amy's is dealing with ghosts whether she knows it at first or not. She likes to see herself as the normal one out of the family. Everyone around them thinks they are weird and crazy and their business on the Goodnight farm is no secret. The story was silly at some points what with her running outside in her skivvies yelling at a cow but it was really interesting. One thing I really liked about it was that the love interest a young hot cowboy that didn't believe in any of her world until the end. Which I found refreshing.

Kaylee screams. She doesn't know why. She sees shadows swirling around people and she screams, wailing for the death she knows will come. She's filled with greif and dread. She's told that they are just panic attacks but deep down Kaylee knows better. She feels that the person in the shadows will die very very soon. She thinks she's crazy but is she really when that person winds up dead just like she knew they would? Then there's others. A series of deaths most of them predicted by Kaylee herself. Young girls falling over dead. No apparent cause of death. Kaylee feels guilty like she should have warned the girls but how could she when she has no way of voicing any warning when she's in agony holding back her screams. With no one to turn to but the georgous popular boy that is suddenly showing her attention-and doesn't seem to think she's crazy- Kaylee sets out to find the truth. To her life and the others' deaths. When things fall apart, are they really falling apart or are they falling together?

Chemical Garden Trilogy 01 Wither
by
Lauren DeStefano
Stormy
, August 15, 2011
I read a few reviews for Wither before reading it and they mostly said that it was beautiful writing. I can't say that I disagree. The writing and the story are horrifyingly beautiful. I loved the picture Lauren De Stefano painted in my head of the world she imagined. I usually don't like these type of books but this one is just amazing. Some parts are gruesome and hard to bare, yes, but it makes the story that much more exciting and believable. No fairytale here, at least not yet. I cannot wait for the sequel. It just might kill me to wait. I can feel my heart squeezing painfully with longing already.

Fear Street 51 Trapped
by
R L Stine
Stormy

The scariest creature I have ever read about! If my memory serves me right they a group of kids ventured into tunnels under a high school and wound up getting lost and confused about which way to get out. There was history down there of kids partying and trashing it up and sometimes never surfacing again. Anyway, one by one the teens get picked off by a red tornado-like mist that picked them up and squeezed and twisted them into impossible angles. Bones cracked and snapped and there were definitely screams of agony. I couldn't imagine the fear knowing that you might be next or watching your friend or boyfriend get eaten by this wicked thing. All I know is that the book scared me. My heart was beating so fast. At some points I had to stop reading and I was reading in the daylight! It scared me more than zombies do. If you knew me this would be unimaginable because I loath zombies. I can't stand to see them limping along bedraggled with their limbs awkward and their mouths foaming with blood. They freak me out to the point of panic attacks but I'm sure that if there was a movie about this red tornado creature I would be really flipping out to the point of CPR. No lie!

The story is that Latino Blood member, Alex, makes a bet with his friends that he can get into the popular, rich, white girl's pants by Thanksgiving. During the process of him trying to seduce her and her trying to stay perfect they fall in love. His gang business gets in the way of their relationship because she doesn't want anything to happen to him. He's changed in this time of being with Brittany and decides he wants to better his life because of Brittany's influence and wanting to be with her. There is a lot of other drama and amazingly sweet encounters between them but I want you to figure these out for yourself. I really liked this book. Its funny, sweet, and real. I could really relate to this story in some ways. I grew up in a bad neighborhood with all the drugs and gangs and though I never got sucked in, I've met people under the influence of those things and actually fell in love with one at one point and changed his life like Brittany did for Alex. So this story and its sequels really mean a lot to me and hit close to home every time. I can promise that you will love it.
