This book was absolutely charming! From the beginning I was intrigued by the main character, Billie who has this amazing palate and can tell a chef what ingredients were used in the making of any dish simply by taste. The book follows her journey to NY city where she takes a job at Delicious, a food magazine. Billie is a drab introvert, who is running from her past and can't seem to believe that others see her as a beautiful and talented cook. With it's colorful cast of characters, a mysterious hidden room, and a delightful romance, this novel has all the ingredients of a wonderful story.

Hangmans Daughter

I really enjoyed this mystery set in 17th century Bavaria. It is a cleverly written and imaginative story with many twists and turns, set in a time in history when people were more superstitious, attributing illness and misfortune to witchcraft or the devil. The heroes of the story are an unlikely bunch, including the town hangman, his daughter, and the apprentice physician who set out to save the midwife accused of killing tattooed orphans with witchcraft. They are in a race to find out who murdered the tattooed orphans before the town councilmen burn the midwife at the stake. Several townspeople have spotted a devil with a bone hand who may be connected with the murders. But they need to find out the truth. This story is full of suspense as they try to find the devil's identity and free the midwife before time runs out. This book is difficult to put down. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next!

Me Before You
by
Jojo Moyes

What a beautiful story! The characters are English, charming and quirky. I fell in love with them and had a difficult time putting this book down. The main characters are two unlikely people; Will a cantankerous, quadriplegic and Louisa an ordinary village girl, that on the surface have little in common. Louisa becomes Will's caretaker and sets out on a quest to make him want to live again. Moyes takes a controversial topic and addresses it in a way that makes you think about quality of life issues for people with disabilities. This book is also a love story that goes beyond the superficial and gets to the heart of what makes a person valuable. It is tastefully written, but really challenged my beliefs about life and the choices people make. Be prepared to laugh and cry if you read this book.

This book is wonderful! Such an intriguing mystery interspersed with fairy tales of the Grimm sort. The story goes back and forth between present day Australia and turn of the Century England. It's a creative, imaginative tale of a little girl discovered on a ship from England who is adopted by a family in Australia. Her identity remains a secret until her 21st birthday when her adoptive father tells her the truth. This leads her on a quest to find out where she came from and who her true family is. However, she passes away before she is able to discover her past. Her granddaughter carries on with the search that leads her to a cottage on the Cornish Coast and a connection to the aristocratic Mountrachet family. Every time I thought I had this story figured out, something else would happen that would make me question all over again. I couldn't put it down.
