I picked this up in the store to read and pass some time, and I couldn't put it down. Gay's essays are hilarious, intense, beautifully paced, and they resonated with me deeply.

Corinne Ou L'Italie...

I absolutely loved this book when I read it in college. It's one of the few well-known early 19th-century novels by and about a woman artist, and Stael does a fantastic job depicting the double-bind female artists faced in her era (while also telling a captivating story that deserves its place in the romantic canon). It's long and heavy on description, but well-worth the read.
