Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Sadly, I had to buy this in Canada, since I wanted the silver-backed one, but as they're hard to find in any version in the US, I'm glad to know Powell's carries them now. Mine is great, easy to use, lightweight, and the backlight is perfect. There is at least one issue that remains to be resolved, however, which is that my library system (the Washington Anytime Library), where I hope to get most of my ebooks, is not yet set up to check them out via wifi. I can still check them out via my computer, but was hoping it would be easier when traveling. Hopefully, they'll catch up. No problem downloading epub or Adobe books from the many free sites, however, and Kobo itself has many free ebooks available from their website, and the wifi feature does work there.

This is storytelling at its best. As a primary school librarian it was one of my choices to read aloud to second and third-graders (and I was very picky about what I chose). It's written in a wonderful dialect and is laugh-out-loud funny, but more than that, it makes a point. The illustrations by Moser are a perfect match. Of course, anything by him is to be treasured.
