Curse of the Spider King (Library Edition)

This is a great book. I connected with it quickly and loved the teen elf lords. The elves are like the kind you would read in The Lord oF the Rings, not Santa Clause. Love it. Each character has their own personality that readers can identify with. I personally liked the character Jimmy because his story pulled at my heart strings. The action is exciting and the world of Berinfell is fully developed. The powers of the teens are so cool, ranging from hearing people's thoughts to incredible strength. Spiders as the enemy are a brilliant idea because most people seem to hate spiders. The audio asspect was fun and new for me, this being my first audio book. The narrator did a good job, his voice changing for each character. I liked most of the voices, the villain ones were creepy, but some I found strange. But they grew on me and I enjoyed the story as he talked. This was a great tale written by two great authors and performed by a talented narrator. Recommended for anyone.

Storyline - King Lochland is overwhelmed by the work of the kingdom of Myriad. So he goes out and lives among his people, taking up new trades to blend with the town's folk. But old and new enemies are rising up and causing destruction and heart ache wherever they go. Hinterlanders, who live on the other side of the mountains, have an old queen, known as the Red Queen, returns, worse now than she was before. Now part dragon, she rains fire on whoever rebels against her. Alistair and Telwyn go off looking for Cetheral when Abbageal's dreams are haunted by him. But a worst evil is coming from the Dark Sea. Can this evil be turned away? Will the Halfainin be found and be called forth? Personal Opinion - Good but perhaps too many characters to follow. Don't get me wrong, the characters were great and diverse, and I enjoyed them very much. But, because of so many character, it seemed a little long. Besides that, the story lines were intriguing and new beings were introduced as well as characters I hope to see more of. The Hinterland people were so interesting and fun (they reminded me a bit of Hobbits). I am curious as to how some inhabitants of the land have fared after the terrible battles. The story was good and is leading up to more, dangerous adventures for the next books in the series. So many questions need to answered with the ending of this book.

One of the best books yet by Mr. Batson. His characters are so real and the story is so captivating. I got pulled into character's struggles and story without even noticing it happening. I loved the adventure and journey they went on. The land and inhabitants were creative and the Christian analogy of the story was beautifully done. Just beautiful. The villains of the story made my skin crawl and gave me the shivers. I have said this in a previous post but I will say it again, Mr. Batson is talented when it comes to villains. A must read for fantasy, adventure, and Christian readers. They won't be sorry.

An exciting, pirate book... and it is Christian! How many Christian books do you know that can make pirates the good guys? Really? The adventure was fun and filled with action. The characters grew in Jesus and fought against evil. A story well strung together. Treasure haunting is something every kid dreams about and these pirates are off to find it. But, there is more to the treasure than what meets the eye. Christians applaud the wonderful lesson of what the real treasure is in this book.

Berinfell Prophecies 02 Venom & Song

This book was good. I really enjoyed the characters and the two authors, Wayne Thomas Batson and Christopher Hopper, know how to put a story together. Each character had their own battle they had to face which brought great examples of forgiveness, sacrifice, trust, and acceptance of one's self. An example of how anger and hate is a destroyer was also in the book. The characters learn about how to trust God even in the most desperate circumstance and that no matter what, no matter what anyone has ever called or treated you as, he loves you (something all of us should remember). The book is meant for those 12 and up and is an excellent book for anyone looking for a decent story for a young adult.
