Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. A very unique, fun story that will make the book hard to put down at times. It takes place in the Stone Age, using more modern peoples to model the characters after, such as Native Americans, Inuits, and other tribal people that use some of the same techniques used in these times. The way she uses these aspects in her story make it really believable and realistic. The few things that could be improved in this story are fixed in the other books of the series. This book is the first of a six book series that you will wish never had to end.

This is a book that you will either love or hate. Personally I loved it. It has all the action, adventure, battles, and suspense that you look for in a good book. But if you don't like learning a new history, world, creatures, and strange names, this book is not for you. It leads up to a slow second installment, which is made up for by having a suspenseful, great final novel that will keep you guessing till the end, and end different than you expected, but a good one.

This is one of my favorite books of all time. It is a young adult book but John Flanagan has the skills of a more mature writer. This book outshines a lot of other young adult fantasies. If you are a fan of a long series, 11 books now, 12 eventually, then I recommend this series. This book is my favorite in the series by far. I recomend this to people of all ages, but it would make more sense if it is read in the series, not alone.
