Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Monstrumologist 01

This was one of those books that I just picked up off the bookshelf for curiosity and boredom's sakes, but I am so glad that I did. The characters are deep and the writing profound, all wrapped up in a Victorian setting and fantastical horror. The book is thrilling, humorous, and gritty all at once, and I was easily and quickly sucked into the story. Rick Yancey has a vivid imagination and puts it to good use, and I would recommend the Monstrumologist to anyone who enjoys a book that keeps them on the edge of their seat.

Storm Front: Dresden Files 1
by
Jim Butcher

It has been a long, long time since I enjoyed a book so thoroughly. I would highly recommend this book to any fan of either fantasy or mystery. Harry Dresden is a relevant hero and narrator, and easy to relate to, and whether a hero or a villain all of the characters are believable and sound. The plot is intense, the non-stop action makes it impossible to put it down, and the book as a whole is well-written and absorbing. Jim Butcher has become one of my favorite authors with one book, and I still have 12 to read!!
