Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Um yes hi I need this book. I promise that in exchange for getting it for free (even if I have to wait until March), I will write a review ten times the length. I'll even throw in a cat. Anything just to get this book, please and thank you.

Words cannot even express how amazingly brilliant this book is. I need it on my bookshelf, for good. I got it from the library, thinking that it must be interesting if its name is Delirium. I refused to allow myself to think twice, and I'm glad I didn't, because I stayed up late into the night until I finished the book. Oliver's writing style is so breathtaking and I can't get enough of it, and can't wait until Requiem comes out in March!

This is handsdown, one of the best books I have ever read. The story is told with such beautiful language and prose-like fluidity that it left me turning the pages until the entire story was over. I plan on buying this book the second I have the money, because it's a necessity on my bookshelf.

Llama Llama Holiday Drama

Best holiday book ever. I've been reading it to my son for over a year now, and it's always an exciting moment when we finish the Thanksgiving dinner and break out the Llama Llama. We have all the Llama Llama books, but this one hits a special note. In the book, Llama Llama gets overwhelmed with all the hooplah of the holiday season, and Mama Llama has to remind him exactly what the season is about, saying, "Wishing, waiting, wanting things. We forget what this time brings. Gifts are nice, but there's another, the true gift is--we have each other." Wonderful story, wonderful message.
