First Phone Call from Heaven
by
Mitch Albom

I have read all of Mitch Alboms books, so when The First Phone Call from Heaven came out, I had to get my hands on it the moment it hit shelves. Albom is such an amazing writer, and he takes you to places that you can imagine yourself in the story with the characters. The books takes on a very interesting concept of life after death, and if it really does exist. The First Phone Call from Heaven follows people living in Coldwater, Michigan who see a drastic change in the small town as news of heavenly phone calls reach the rest of the world. The story follows the lives of many characters who all react to the phone calls in different ways, positive, negative and not knowing what to think. The book draws you in and it can be hard to put down. The middle for several pages might be hard to get though, but it does pick up again for a nice twisted ending. It's a stellar book, and I can't wait for Mitch Albom to have another book out. I will be reading this again.

Empress of the World

I picked this book in high school for a fun read between homework sessions. It's not just for high school kids, it can be for anyone who is interested in a unique story. What makes the book is unique is that it follows a high school girl to basically a camp for smart people, and falls in with a crowd of friendly smart teenagers her age. She ends of having feeling for one of the girls she has befriended and things progress from there. She becomes confused because she has always liked boys, but this girl makes her feel special. The book is full of drama and excitement, it's a real page turner. If younger readers are getting into this book, it's great to introduce sexual identity and gender roles. It's a multidimensional book.

Suicide Notes
by
Michael Thomas Ford

This is a book that will make you think a little bit. Michael Thomas Ford created a page turner, and a book you might not want to put down. This story is so realistic in the way it confronts hard issues to talk about, like suicide. It really opens up readers to the thoughts and feeling people have when they are in dark times, and feel like dying is the only option. It will tug at your heart and mind, and take you to a place where you can understand the characters, and feel like a part of their lives. This book is very well written, and there should be more books like this.

I love all of Mitch Albom's books, but this is by far the best one so far. Everyone should read it at some point.
