Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Bad Blood

I absolutely love the Kate books. I recommend all 20 of them no matter what genre you like to read. I haven't finished one yet without wanting to read more. At least in the past I was still catching up with the series, so there was more to read. This latest book reads like Romeo and Juliet in the modern day, but with some modern twists. I'm just bummed I'm going to have to wait at least a year before I find out what happens next. I don't remember any of the other Kate books ending with such a huge cliff hanger. Seriously, if you like mystery/true crime books, check out anything written by Dana Stabenow. If you like books with a strong female character who takes no prisoners, definitely check out the Kate Shugak series. You will love them. But read slowly, when you get to Bad Blood you are going to be left wanting to know what happens next..

The Age of Miracles

I will never forget a book like The Age of Miracles and it has quickly worked its way into my heart as one of my favorite books of all time. If you love coming of age books like To kill a mockingbird, The Book thief and Bridge to Terabithia you will probably love The Age of Miracles. As for me I like books that make me think and I love books that make me feel but most important of them all are the special books that make you feel enough to think after the chapter closes and the dust settles. It takes an amazing writer to do that.

Scat

Scat lets just say it was a pretty good book!!! Scat is about this boy named, Nick who is on a mission with his friend named, Marta to find his teacher, Ms.Starch. I don’t think they know what they are in for but I can’t give out too much. Nick also has another life other than helping his teacher and the environment. His dad is in Iraq fighting for our country, when Nick gets some good news and bad. It’s pretty shocking what Nick goes through. So that’s the good review the bad thing what I really didn’t like about this book was that in the previous books, hoot, and flush was that there was always a bully in scat there really isn't a bully other than Ms. Starch lol, but after in my opinion Scat is on the top charts of the book I’ve read. Along with the other Carl Hiaasen books. I really do recommend this book to everyone that likes an adventure and loves!!!! The environment so if you want to read this go ahead.

Walkable City

Like all great books, this left me wanting more and with a host of questions. Is the cognitive impact of narrower lanes the same on all drivers everywhere? Does culture matter in the development of walkable cities, or can structural and spatial changes drive transformations all on their own? Just how and when did so many American cities get it so wrong? But all those are questions for another book - this one accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do. Absolutely recommended.

Banksy: The Man Behind the Wall
by

This was a really informative book. Although it wasn't sanctioned by Banksy himself, the author had clearly done a lot of research and spoken with a lot of Banksy's friends past and present. Like a lot of biographies, I was forced to think about the artist in an unusual light and it changed my understanding of him. That can be a good thing or a bad thing, but either way, I feel like I know Banksy better now than I did before reading the book, and I would gladly recommend it to others.
